  • Decemberist Revolt

    Decemberist Revolt
    Was a revolt made by groups of nobels intended to over throw the government called the Union of Salvation. They didn't get very far. Czar Nicholas I crushed the uprising and that was the end of it.

    Emancipation of the Serfs
    There were about 50 million serfs in Russia at the time that Alexander II ruled. The serfs were treated very inhumanely. Alexander II decided that in order to rebuild Russia, serfdom had to be abolished. The serfs were now free but were not promised any land. If they wanted to own land, they could buy a small portion.

    The Russian Revolution in 1905 began because of unrest from the Russian people. This social unrest spread throughout the entire nation. The people went on strike, and turned to terrorism and military desertment. The people managed to win a lot from their unrest; a new constitution, a multi-party system, and even a new monarchy.

    Bloody Sunday
    Bloody Sunday was supposed to be a peaceful protest by the workers in Russia. The workers just wanted to present a petition to the government because they had a hostile work environment. The Cossacks refused to let workers into the square and a protest broke out. The Cossacks opened fire, killing about 150 people (including women and children).

    Russia entered the world war as the largest army in the world. It had highly impressive numbers, but there weren't enough guns and amo to go around. Germany later turned on them. The losses were devistating with Russia losing 2.5 million in their death toll. The economy was ruined, and the people (esspecially the peasants) were angered.
  • Rasputin Murdered

    Rasputin Murdered
    Rasputin was a monk brought in to help heal and predict things for members of the royal family. He was a very strange character, but he helped the tsar's son stop bleeding from the disease he had. He started being involved in scandals with the tsarina which led for the royals and the peasants to hate him. Finally members of the aristocracy decided enough was enough. They managed to kill Rasputin but with great difficulty. In the autopsy they ruled he drowned from the water in his lungs.
  • March Revolution

    March Revolution
    These riots began from the peasants. They were upset that they didn't have enough fuel or bread. The soldiers ended up joining the peasants and overthrowing the officials.
  • Tsar Nicholas II Abdicates

    Tsar Nicholas II Abdicates
    This was the final day of the tsar's rule. He stepped down from the throne. He left Russia in ruin. The economy was a wreck as well the military from the world war. People were not happy which was a main cause of the revolutions and his downfall.

    Bolshevik Revolution
    Russia was in ruins thanks to World War I. Bolshevik party wanted to overthrow Provisional government and set up a proletarian government. In 1917, they succeeded in overthrowing the government. The Bolshevik Revolution is also known as the October Revolution
  • Murder of the Romanovs

    Murder of the Romanovs
    The royal family was captured by the rebels. The family became a problem because they still had many loyal follwers that would rebel and fight for them. This created a need to dispose of the family which led to house arrest followed by their execution. Three servants, a doctor, and the entire family were murdred. There have been many accusations that the tsar's youngest two children survived, but this is just a theory.

    The Treaty of Versailles was the peace treaty signed by Germany and the Allies after World War I. It was made for Germany and presented by the Big Three. It took a lot of land from Germany and held Germany accountable for all the money everyone used for the war. They had to pay reparations back until all the land was rebuilt.

    Lenin Dies/USSR formed
    Lenin died when he was only 54 years old. There was a power struggle between Trotsky and Stalin, which ended in Stalin gaining power. USSR was formed in December 30, 1922.

    Stalin Takes Power/ Death of Trotsky
    Lenin died from natural causes in 1924, and this called for a new leader. Trotsky was a military leader, and was thought to be the one to take over the power, but he was very unpopular with the people. Instead, Stalin took the power despite being thought of as dangerous.
