  • Russo-Japenese War

    Russia and Japan went to war because Japan took Russias' one and only warm water port.The Czar told the people to fight for "the faith, the Czar, and the Fatherland". Japan ended up beating the Russians even though they were greatly out numbered and not favored to win. This impacted the peoples hope and trust in their countries power and military.
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    Protesters came out on the streets singing songs of government praise led by a priest. Liberals called for a constitution and reforms to overhaul the government. All of which were peaceful and the Czar had his military shoot everyone involved. This made Russia question and doubt the Czar.
  • Revolution of 1905

    Workers go on strike, peasants demand land, terrorists target officials, and some assassinations took place. Because of this, Russias' enconmy could not function so the Czar had no choice but to grant new rights. Freedom of person, speech, assembly, and union freedoms.
  • Russia Joins WWI

    Russia joins the war and the factories in Russia could not keep up with the needed supplies for the soldiers. Due to this, some soldiers had no weapons and ran into battle empty handed. Now more workers were put into supporting the military, but this did nothing to the economy except hurt it. The Russian people couldnt get much more poor.
  • Grigory Rasputin

    Grigory Rasputin
    He was a peasant Holy-man who convinced Czarina Alexadra that he had special powers to help her diseased son. He eventually gained control over her which led to him gaining government power. He was very radical and nobles did not want him to become a monarch. So after 2 attempts, they finally had him killed by throwing him into a frozen river.
  • February Revolution

    Workers went on strike and mostly women crowded the streets chanting "Bread" and the Troops refused to shoot them. The Czar was forced to step down, he was later killed.

    Czar Nicholas stepped down in March of 1917. Workers went on strike, massive shortages on the battlefeild, and battlefeild disasters all led to fall of the monarchy. The people were happy that now a new type of government would come into play.

    Duma polititions set up a provisional government and began to set up a constitution with it. Then the Bolsheviks chose V.I. Lenin to be their revolutionary and he stepped up and took power.

  • The Death of the Romanovs

    The reds killed the royal family, the Romanovs, to ensure that they would never come back into power. The people all agreed it was time for a new government and a new type of ruler.

    The Reds and the Whites fought for three years. The Whites were tsarist imperial officers, democrats, and more all united to defeat the Bolsheviks. This left Russia in peices and starved because of the recent wars.

    Lenin created the government to be communist and united the old Russian Empire to form the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. It brought much of Russia together and they had a constituion made. The only problem with this was, that it only worked in a perfect world.

    Lenin died at 54 in 1924. This caused a big struggle with the Communist leaders. The two men that would most likely take his place were Trotsky and Stalin. Stalin eventually stripped Trotsky of a party membership and he had to flee the country. Stalin would be the new leader of the USSR
