  • Decombrist Revolt

    Decombrist Revolt
    -was a small group of nobles and army officails that tried to overthrow the czar's government
    -they wanted to set up a constiutioinal monarchy in Russia
    -Czar NIcholas I quickly put an end to it and executed five of the leaders and also sent hundreds more to Sibera to be exiled.
  • Emancipation of the serfs

    Emancipation of the serfs
    • Alexander issued his Emancipation Manifesto that proposed 17 legislative acts that would free the serfs in Russia. -Czar Alexander II emancipated the serfs, who where pretty much just slaves that were not treated fair at all, they were bound to the land and listened to the landlord -personal serfdom would be abolished and all peasants would be able to buy land from their landlords and would pay for the land the have been using sums known as redemption payments
  • Bloody Sunday

    Bloody Sunday
    -massacre in St. Petersburg, Russia
    -The leader of the assembly, the priest Georgy Gapon, hoping to present the workers’ request for reforms directly to Emperor Nicholas II, arranged a mass demonstration He led the workers toward the square beofore the Winter Palace. They were peacefully carrying religious icons, pictures of Nicholas, and petitions.
    -The police fired at the marchers, more then 100 of them were killed and several hundred wounded.

    -it was a instrumental in convincing Tsar Nicholas II to attempt the transformation of the Russian government from an autocracy into a constitutional monarchy.
    -riots and strikes happended throughout the cities
    -in the country side, peasants looted and burned down the homes of landowners
    -to end it Czar Nicholas II set up a elected assembly called the Duma and also made minor reforms, but the Duma had little power and the reforms failede to solve Russia's basic problem

    -Russia entered the war on the side of the allies
    -Russia enters the war because Serbia was declared wasr upon by Austria-Hungary and Russia was a ally of Serbia at the time
    -Austria-Hungary went to war against Serbia to avenge the assassination of the Archduke Francis Ferdinand by the Bosnian Serb Gavrilo Princip, in Sarajevo, BosniaHercegovina, on June 28, 1914.
  • Rasputin Murdered

    Rasputin Murdered
    -Rasputin was a monk from Siberia who was the only person who could stop the bleeding of the czar's son because he had hemophilia.
    -after that he became the advisor to the czar's wife, which the aristicrats didn't like a peasant giving advice to the empress.
    -So an aristicrat, Yussupov invited Rasputin to his home, feeding him cyanide-laced wine and cakes it is also told that after he didn't die the conspirators shot him so after he didnt die they threw him in a fiver were he died from dorwning.
  • March Revolution

    -riots and strikes erupted in Petrograd, the Russian capital at the time.
    -crowds protested the war and the shotage of food, they shouted "bread and peace," while protesting
    -when it started to grow and spread the government sent troops to deal with it but they refused to fire upoon the crowds and some hundreds of them even joined in on the protest
    -new of it spread, and demonsrators overthrew czarist officals

    -Czar Nicholas II abdicated, which means he gave up the throne
    -he abdicated just a week after the march revolution began
    -he rovoked the crown not to his son Alexts, but in favor of his brother, MIchael, who refused to take the crown

    -V. I. Lenin was the leader of the Bolshevik Party in Russia whose goal was to overthrow the Provisional Government and set up a government for the proletariat
    - Red Guards and the other revolutionary groups, under the orders of the Soviet's Military Revolutionary Committee, seized post and telegraph offices, electric works, railroad stations, and the state bank
    - a shot rang out from the Battleship Aurora, the Red Guard stormed the Winter Palace.
  • Murder of th Romanovs

    • After his abdication Nicholas and his family had been put under house arrest and kept just outside of St. Petersburg. As the civil war developed, the whole family was sent to Tolbolsk, Siberia and then Ekateringburg, Urals -To many, Nicholas was still the legitimate ruler of Russia, people would rally to his cause, many in the White army were fighting to restore Nicholas the throne.

    -the Bolsheviks decided to kill Nicholas and his family. the family was awoken and told that there was trouble and that they would be safer in the basement of the house. The whole family, the family doctor and three servants went to the basement. A group of Red Army soldiers went to the basement and executed the family
    -it is said that some of the princesses had to be killed by baenets because the czar's wife had the family emeralds in her courset and the bullets deflected
  • Treaty of Versailes

    -this was the treaty that came at the end of world war I, it treaty was made up of the "Big Three," David Lloyd George of Britain, Clemenceau of France and Woodrow Wilson of America.
    -the treaty took a lot of land away from Germany and it also reduced Germany's military size with no tanks allowed, also Germany had to pay reparations for paying for the damages of the war they started
    -Russia got the land that was taken by the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk some of this land was made into new states.

    -Stalin was appointed to Bolshevik Central Committee in april 1917 which is when he started to support Lenin more
    -Stalin joined the Bolshevik party in 1903 makes his way up in power and becomes close to Lenin that starts his way to power

    -Lenin dies of a heart attack at the age of 54
    -the bolsheviks
    -After eliminating all their enemies, the Bolsheviks established the USSR, ehich stands for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
    -Stalin quickley consolidates, gains many supporters and takes control of the USSR

    -Trotsky was exiled by Stalin and so he went to Mexico
    -he was assinated be the russian secret police and it was done in his own home. he was attacked with a small axe
    -with Trotsky dead and out of the way there was nobody that could possibly be able to fight Stalin's power
