  • Apr 5, 1462

    Ivan III

    Became Grand Prince of Moscow April 5th 1462. Tripled Moscow's territory, autocracy was tried (one ruler), and ended dominance of Golden Horde (Mongol/Turkish political entity). Ruled until 1505.
  • Dec 3, 1533

    Ivan IV

    Became prince of Moscow on December 3rd, 1533. He transformed Russia's government structure, became the first Tsar of Russia, his economic policies ended Rurik Dynasty. Rule ended March 1584.
  • Michael Romanov

    He became a Russian Tsar on Feb 21st, 1613. Source of the end of the Time of Troubles (Large Famine). His rule ended in July of 1645.
  • Peter I

    On May 7th, 1682, he became a Tsar of Russia. Took Russia out of the Mideval times, centralized the government and modernized the army. His rule ended February 1725.
  • Catherine II

    On July 9th, 1762, she became the Empress of russia. She was the longes ruling female in Russian history. Russia was recognized as one of the great powers of Europe, grew stronger and expanded. Her rule ended November 1796.
  • Alexander II

    March 2nd, 1855, Alexander II became the Emporer of the Russian Empire. He lead negotiations to peace for the end of the Crimean War. (Major conflict for territory among powers of Europe)
  • Nicholas II

    He became the Emporer of Russia on November 1st, 1894. "Bloody Warriors" ruled during economic & military collapse. He engaged Russia in WWI, killing 3.3 million Russians, as well as defeat in various other wars. His rule ended March 1917
  • Vladimir Lenin

    Became Prime Minister of Russia sometime in July (not 4th) of 1917. Communist politician, led October revolution of 1917. Fought for control of Russia in the Russian civil war.
  • Alexander Kerensky

    Political leader during Russian revolutions of 1917. Ruled July 21st, 1917. Led the provisional government (gov. sworn loyalty). His rule ended Nov 1917.
  • Joseph Stalin

    Became ruler of the Soviet Union in May 1941 (not 8th). Led the country through WWII. Also lead world communism. Rule ended sometime in March of 1953.
  • Mikhail Gorbachev

    April 12th is not the actual date Mikhail became the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, He did, however, start in 1985. Helped to end the coldwar by stopping the supremacy of the communist party of the Soviet Union. Won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990. Ended office in August 1991.
  • Boris Yeltsin

    Became the first President of the Russian Federation on December 25th, 1991. Vowed to transform Russia's socialist command economy into a free market economy, implemented economic shock therapy. Responsible for corruption, inflation, and economic collapse.
  • Dmitri Medvedev

    Became the 3rd president of Russia on March 2nd, 2008. Responsible for victory in 2008 Ossetia War & helped recover from the late 2000 recession.
  • Vladimir Putin

    Became the Prime Minister of Russia may 8th, 2008. Brought political stability, restored territorial integrity of Russia via the second Chechen war.
  • Grand Prince Vladimir

    969 he started rule of Novgorod after the death of his father. He seized kIev from his brother in 972. Converted Kiev and Novgorod to christianity due to a promise to Basil II for his sister's hand in marriage. Ruled until 1015. I couldn't find the actual date, so I doubt Jan 1st of 969 is correct.
