Napoléon Bonaparte, from France, invades Russia with over 600,000 men and came out with only 10,000. -

Alaska was sold to the U.S. for $7.2 million. -
Czar Alexader III
Czar Alexader III came into power after Czar Alexander II was assasinated. Czar Alexader III ordered the first Fabrege Egg for his wife, Czarina Maria. -

Czar Nicholas II reluctantly becomes czar at age 26. -
Trans-Siberian Railroad completed
The Trans-Siberian Railroad was completed. It was 4,500 miles long. -

Alexader II abdicated the throne, but he didn't want to give it to his son, so he asked his brother, but his brother refused the offer. -
Lenin comes into power.
Lenin becomes leader of the Russian Communist Part and followed Karl Marx's ideals, which were that everyone should be equal and the government should provided for the people. -
Romanovs were murdered.
THey were held under house arrest in St. Petersburg, then moved to Siberia, and next to Yekaterinburg, which is where they were murdered. -
USSR established
USSR, which stands for Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, was established. -
Joseph Stalin came into power.
Joseph Stalin became sole dictator of the USSR. he mantained power in three ways: Communist party, KGB, a national secret police force, and The Soviet Army. IF you didn't obey the Communist Party, you could be sent to prison camps in Siberia or killed. -
Cold War begins
The Cold War is a 40 year sandoff between the US and Russia. Both countries were nuclear superpowers, but never fired, because they were afraid of world destruction. -
USSR takes over Germany
In 1948, the USSR takes over Berlin, Germay and splits it between France, the US, Great Britain, and themselves. France, the US, and Great Britain formed a Democracy in their parts, while the USSR is forming a Communist economy. The US is worried that the USSR are trying to spread Communism all over the world. -
Space Race
The United States and Russia had a Space Race to see who could reach the moon and who could put the first satellites in space. This happened from 1957 to 1975. -
Vladimer Putin became president.
In 2000 Vladimer Putin was elected president. He had an eight year consecutive term. -
Medvedev is inaugurated.
The new president Medvedev is inaugurated. Putin was his right hand man and was still helping him. Some people believe that he was basically leading for three straight tems. -

Vikings settled in Rus and set up small farming communities. They got alot of their culture from the Byzantine Empire. -
