    A new law is made, which gives landowners the financial control of their serfs. This showed mercantialism and had effected the social classes in Russia. This change had a dramatic effect on the serfs' lives, and their potential to be free again.

  • War

    War
    The Ottoman Empire declared for war on Russia. Sweden was suppost the Ottomans, and Austria allied with Russia. The war emerged nationalism. In result to the war, Russia gained provinces in the Causasus
  • Won

    Won
    Russia defeated the Ottomans, and obtained southern Ukraine, and Odessa. Due to winning, Alexander II became leader. It changed society for Russians, and this was not the end of the Ottoman and Russia going to war.

    Russia has 36 million people, 96% living coutryside, and 53% of that are serfs. Jews were permited to settle in some regions of Russia. As Russia was slowly beginning to move westward, they were gaining more people.
  • Railroads

    The first Russian Railroad was active. This led to trains being a powerful use of transportatiion. It was a 16 mile line, between St. Petersburg and Tsarskoye Selo. Because of the success with the first one, they built more railroads. Although, during the 1850s there was 570 Russian Railroads.
  • Ban of Warships

    Ban of Warships
    Britian, Russia, France, Austria and Prussia agreed to ban all warships from the Ottoman straits, which then confined the Southern Russia fleet to the Balck Sea. This was an effect of the Crimean War.
    The concept came out of the Congress of Vienna. As a result, the British became isolationists.
  • Free Peasants

    Free Peasants
    Alexandar II abolished serfdom, which in result freed 20 million serfs and land to pesant communes. It was called the Emancipation Manifesto. It was 17 legislative acts that freed serfs. Peasants were now able to buy land from their landlords.

    Alexandar II realizes the need for a strong military. Due to this realization, he drafts most to all Russian males, and not just the lower class. In the 1860's to this effect, Russia conquers, takes control, and expands to many places.
  • Assasination

    Assasination
    Alexander the II is assasinated, and is succeeded by Alexander III. He chooses to enact anit-terrorism laws, that change ciivil rights and freedom of the press. Afer Alexander III gains control, there were mass migrations moving and settling into the US. The changes that Alexander III made, effected many people, and Russia lost about 2.5 million people.
  • Famine

    Famine
    The Great Famine kills many people. It was caused by a serious drought, and dry weather. The drought caused mass starvation, and little food product for people. This event paused the agriculture in Russia. Crops failed and many other farms trying to grow grain and vegtables.
