    Hitler joins and fights in WWI
    Hitler joined the army in May of 1913. In June in 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand was gunned down by a Serbian, he was the heir to the Austrian throne. Many people, including Hitler, wanted to fight in the war that erupted because of this, but little did they know it would be one of the most devastating wars ever.

    Germany Surrenders: Treaty of Versailles
    On June 28th 1919, Germany officially surrendered and signed the Treaty of Versailles, which ended WWI. The treaty gave Germany a lot of harsh penalties and restrictions. The final treaty had the "war guilt clause" which made Germany accept all financial and moral responsibility for the war. Germany had to sign the treaty, or keep fighting the war.

    Nazi Party is Formed
    On October 16th 1919, the first meeting of the Nazi Party was held. Over 100 people showed up to this meeting. Hitler decided to speak at this meeting, which was his first time speaking publically in front of a lot of people. After speaking for only 30 minutes people were very interested and wanted to hear more. After this meeting and every meeting after that more and more people started going to these meetings, until the Nazi Party grew tremendously.

    Throughout all of 1921 Hitler was become better known. He was very good at speaking in front of large crowds, and every time more and more people would listen. His speeches were influential and it was hard to find somebody who did not love him. Eventually, after many speeches, on July 29th 1921, Hitler became the leader of the Nazi Party.

    Hitler along with a ton of other members of the Nazi Party tried to seize power in Munich. They are all caught and tried for treason. Hitler was found guilty of treason and sentenced for 5 years in prison, but he only serves about 9 months of the 5 year sentence.

    Beer Hall Putsch
    Hitler and 600 of his Stormtroopers (SA) went into a meeting in the back of the hall. They all tried to intimidate the people inside the meeting and influence them. Hitler was trying to take over the government of Berlin, and they used guns to influence the leaders of the meeting. Things did not go to well for Hitler and he along with the other leaders of the group of men were all tried for treason, and sentenced to time in jail.

    Mein Kampf is written
    Hitler wrote Mein Kampf in prison. He published the first volume on July 18, 1925, and the second volume sometime in 1926. Throughout this book, Hitler talks a lot about the Jews and he outlines major ideas that ended up being used in WWII. In this book, it clearly shows Hitler’s hate towards a lot of things, some being what he called the evil twins, Communism and Judaism.

    Throughout all of the 1920's the US economy was booming. It was the best it had ever been, and everyone was taking advantage of the stock market. One day in October, the stock market crashed. Most people and businesses had all their money in the stock market. Banks even used other people’s money and put it in the stock market. Everyone lost money in this crash, which led to the Great Depression.

    In 1928, the Nazi part only had about 12 seats in the Reichstag, or German Parliament. As time went on they got more and more seats because of Hitler and his influential speeches. By 1930 they had 107 seats, and finally in 1932 when the party was elected they had most of the seats. Between 1930 and 1932 the party grew rapidly.

    On January 30th, 1933, Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany by the Reich president. Hitler was a very strong and influential public speaker; whenever he talked he gained more and more followers. Eventually, everybody knew him and wanted him to be Chancellor, and they voted for him, but little did they know what he would end up doing to the country of Germany.

    The Reichstag building (German Parliament) was burned to the ground on February 27th, 1933. The cause of the fire was arson. The government told everybody that the fire was part of a communist effort to overthrow the state, which was not true. Because of this fire, an emergency decree was created, which suspended the right to assembly, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and other constitutional protections.

    Hitler becomes Dictator of Germany
    On March 23, 1933, German Parliament passed a law making Hitler the dictator of Germany. They were able to do this even without the president’s signature. Hitler ended up turning Germany into a powerful war machine that killed anyone and anything that stood in its way. After becoming dictator Hitler passed a bunch of laws that made things unfair for anyone who wasn't a Nazi. He even made it so the Nazi Party was the only political party in Germany.
