    Israel was having lots of civil wars and turmoils so that the Roman Empire was able to come and take it over. They took control of Jerusalem which had lots of Jewish followers. The Romans did not like the religion so this lead to the roman not wanting to treat monotheistic religions well. This event would lead to the persecution of the Christians in Rome.

    Jesus was a Jewish preacher that became the figure for Christianity. All of the Christians believed that he was the reincarnation of God, or the son of God. Many believe that he was able to perform miracles that helped others. Him being the figure of Christianity helped spread it.

    Paul is considered the second most important person in Christianity. He was the leader of the first generation of Christians. He was converted to Christianity later in his life but when he was converted, he traveled thousands of miles to spread the word of God. At first he did not accept Christianity but then he got a vision of God’s son and he decided to convert.

    A conspiracy theory is that the emperor who was in charge, Nero, was wanting to rebuild Rome so he burnt the whole city ablaze and that lasted for six days. The ⅔ of the city went down and a section survived that had all the Christians. To avoid citizens being mad at Emperor Nero, he blamed the Christians for starting the fire. He started massive persecutions of all Christians and used them as a scapegoat. Emperor Nero started the persecution of Christianity in Rome.

    Perpetua
    Perpetua was a woman who was very loyal to Christianity. She was in jail but wrote down all that had happened such as her father telling her to not believe in Christianity, her dreams of killing the devil and getting a crown from the Christian God, and seeing her deceased brother in heaven through a vision. She eventually was executed after a failed attempt to execute her. She helped spread Christianity because those watching her could tell she was very faithful and it impacted many citizens.

    Rome was starting to slowly crumble due to high unemployment, the economy failing, the plague, and other things going wrong. The emperor at the time, Diocletian, blames all the bad things Rome is going through on the Christians. Emperor Diocletian tries to wipe out the Christians. He threw any Christian he could find and try to torture and kill them all by giving them to live animals to be eaten or burning them on a stake. Emperor Diocletian continued the persecution of Christians in Rome.

    Constantine claimed to have a vision before his fight for the position of emperor. He claims the vision told him how to win and he did end up winning. The vision was about Christianity so he started to praise Christianity and helped support them. He made the Edict of Milan which helped make freedom for all religions. Constantine started the spread of Christianity in Rome.

    This battle led to the new emperor, Constantine, to spread Christianity. Before the battle, Constantine got a vision that said to put a cross and an x and a p on his soldiers and he will win. Constantine does as he was told and he ends up winning the battle. Constantine started to believe in fate after this and he started to believe and spread Christianity.

    The Edict of Milan was a law that Constantine signed so that anyone could have freedom for religion. Constantine made it so Christians could be Christians without being persecuted. This law lead to Constantine making a city for Christianity called Constantinople. The Edict of Milan helped spread Christianity throughout Rome.
