After the Texans at the Alamo refused to retreat, there was a fight between the Texans and Santa Anna's Mexican troops. The fight for the Alamo was lost, but it did weaken the Mexican army.

Sam Houston leading an attack over Santa Anna's sleeping troops won the battle in 18 minutes. This is also when the war cries "Remember the Alamo" was shouted by Houston and his troops. Santa Anna was captured.

President Lamar wanted to expel the Indians from Texas, and the way he did so was through aggressive action. Texas troops were sent out to expel the Indians killing many including Chief Bowles of the Cherokee. This aggressive approach was opposed by Sam Houston
