  • Battle of Concepcion

    Texans fight off an attack by a Mexican force much larger than them by using their superior rifles to pick off the Mexicans from the cover of dense foliage.

    Group set up to form a revolutionary government for Texas. They were cautious by declaring Texas having the right to declare independence but they would remain loyal to Mexico under the Constitution of 1824.

    The Siege of the Alamo

    Texans defend the Alamo mission against an army led by Santa Anna. They are eventually overrun by more numerous forces and all the defenders killed. Their courage is long after remembered due to Sam Houston using "Remember the Alamo" as a battle cry at the Battle of San Jacinto.
  • Texas Independence Day

    On this day, 59 men signed the Texas Declaration of Independence at Washington-on-the-Brazos. Texas officially gained its independence from Mexico.
  • Battle of The Alamo Ends

    After 13 days of intermittent fighting, the Battle of the Alamo comes to a gruesome end, capping off a pivotal moment in the Texas Revolution.
  • Goliad Massacre

    The Mexican army, under orders from Santa Anna, killed between 300 and 400 Texan rebels who had surrendered.
  • Battle of San Jacinto

    The Texan Army under Sam Houston attacked a superior Mexican force and defeated them killing over 600 and capturing over 700 while only suffering 8 casualties. While this victory was an incredible feat of military success, it would have ammounted to little, but the Texans were able to capture Santa Anna and used him to negotiate a withdrawal of Mexican troops from Texas.

    Sam Houston's First Presidency for the Republic of Texas

    Sam Houston became the first president of Texas. He encouraged caution in dealing with Mexico and stressed peace with the Indian tribes who lived in Texas. During this time, Texas began to seek annexation by the United States.

    On this day, the United States finally recognizes the Republic of Texas.

    Mirabeau B. Lamar Presidency

    Lamar becomes the second President of the Republic of Texas. He has a heavy handed policy towards Mexico and the Indians and plunges the republic into immense debt.

    Sam Houston's Second Presidency

    This was the third and final term for Houston as president of the Republic of Texas. Houston spent this term playing the European powers and Europe off of each other to encourage peace with Mexico and annexation by the United States.

    Anson Jones' Presidency

    Jones presidency oversaw the annexation of the Republic of Texas by the United States of America
  • Texas Approves Annexation

    Annexation is approved by Texans with a vote of 4254-267. The state's constitution is also approved with a vote of 4174-312.
  • Texas Becomes 28th US State

    The Annexation of Texas by the United States is completed by the changing of governments during a grand ceremony where President Polk signs the resolution form.
