The Battle of the Alamo was fought between Mexican and Texan forces. There were many casualties. The leader of the Mexican forces was President General Antonio López de Santa Anna, as for the Texan forces William B. Travis was the main commander, but there were also leaders such as Davy Crockett and James Bowie.

The Texas Declaration of Independence was drafted on March 1st, and they then adopted it on March 2nd. During this time the Texas Constitution was also being drawn up.

The Battle of San Jacinto followed the Battle of the Alamo. General Samuel Houston led the Texan forces in a fight with General Antonio López de Santa Anna's Mexican army. Houston led the Texans to victory in an 18-minute fight. This led to ownership of a ton of land being changed from Mexican forces to Texans.

Sam Houston is elected as the first president of the Texas Republic! He appointed Mirabeau B. Lamar as vice president.

The second president of the Texas Republic Mirabeau B. Lamar, relocates the capital to Austin, Texas.

The Battle of the Neches started when the Republic refused to recognize treaties from the Cherokees who were living in east Texas. The Republic thought that the Indians were going to join Mexico, and both of these reasons led to the battle starting.

Sam Houston wins the election and is re-elected!

After a long convention, Texas becomes the 28th state of the Union.
