  • Delegates met at San Felipe

    Delegates gathered in San Felipe in November 1835 to discuss the future of Texas. The party, called The Consultation, voted to form a provisional administration, naming the governor of Henry Smith and the army's head Sam Houston. While some native-born Tejano people joined the rebellion, Anglo American immigrants, now more than Tejano in the state, supported most.
  • Santa Anna Responds: The Alamo And The Goliad Massacre

    Santa Anna resolved to punish the rebellious Texans, whom he saw as pirates who were deserving of punishment, by demanding the same kind of penalty as he had visited Zacatecas, to show his strength.
  • Sam Houston

    The constitution was written, approved, and signed by 17 March when the Mexican military arrived, provisional officials were elected, and the military commander Sam Houston had been confirmed.
  • Sam Houston's army defeated

    Remember Goliad with pain! "And" the Alamo remember! "The forces of Sam Houston defeated the army of Santa Anna at the San Jacinto in a short and bloody fight. In less than one year, the Texas Revolution ended, and a new government dominated by Anglos had arisen. But the end of the war wouldn't bring peace to Mexico.
  • Texas signed the declaration of Independence

     As delegates drafted and signed the Texas Declaration of Independence in Washington on 2 March 1836. In September 1836, the Constitution of the Republic of Texas was adopted and followed the pattern of the United States. Constitution, which made explicitly slavery legal, with a significant difference.
  • The Texan Government

    By February, their administration had deteriorated, and Texian powers had spread thinly. The Texan military leaders at San Antonio were slow in preparing the city for an assault, hoping that Santa Anna would need months to prepare a campaign against Texas. The few defenders took shelter in the Alamo when they learned of the Mexicans' approach. William Travis led the Alamo campaign, but his small group could not beat the Mexican army of Santa Anna.
  • U.S. president Andrew Jackson

       Sam Houston's friend President Andrew Jackson ignored protests and officially recognized Texas in 1837. Despite trade negotiations with the USA and later with other nations, Texas was a turbulent time as a republic. In the ten years of the republic, Texans had to deal with Mexican Army invasions, Comanche and other Indian groups hostilities, economic instability, and the lack of government funds.
  • United States Congress
