    The independent Republic of Texas was declared March 2, 1836. 59 delegates approved the Texas Declaration of Independence.

  • Texas defeated at the Battle of the Alamo

    Mexican army lead by Santa Anna defeated the Texans after a thirteen-day siege.

  • Goliad Massacre

    A bloody battle won by Santa Anna. Santa Anna felt confident to divide his troops after this battle which ultimately allowed Sam Houston to beat him later in the War.

  • Battle of San Jacinto

    Texas won independence in a matter of 18 mins. 1200-1400 men of the Mexican Army were defeated by 900 Texan men lead by Sam Houston.

  • Sam Houston elected President

  • Texas congress met for the 1st time

  • Republic of Texas recognized by United States

  • Rafael Vásquez marched into Texas and seized San Antonio

    Vasquez retreated 2 days later

  • The Republic of Texas was annexed to the United States of America

    Texas became the 28th U.S. state.
