Andre Johnson

Try to heal the wounds of war.
President of the end of war was a very crucial time for him to be the president of the United States of America.

Ulysses S. Grant

Build nation first national park.
A formal union general.
Only general who was able to win in big fights.

Rutherford B. Hayes

Mar 4, 1877

Hayes had his Secretary of State create a pact with China which restricted Chinese immigration due to an anti-chinese movement out west.He believed in and proposed civil service reform measures.

Chester A. Arthur

Mar 4, 1881

President Grant in 1871 appointed him Collector of the Port of New York.
Passed to protected employees against removal for political reasons
Arthur also tried to lower tariff rates so the Government would not be embarrassed by annual surpluses of revenue.

Grover Cleveland

He vetoed many private pension bills to Civil War veterans whose claims were fraudulent
When railroad strikers in Chicago violated an injunction, Cleveland sent Federal troops to enforce it.

William McKinley

McKinley annexed the independent Republic of Hawaii in 1898, with all its inhabitants becoming American citizens.
He demanded that Spain end its atrocities in Cuba, which were angering Americans;
1898 Treaty of Paris, the former Spanish colonies of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines were annexed by the United States as unincorporated territories

Theodore Rooservelt

Fought in the Spanish-American war.
Created the National Park System.
Helped solve disputes over Venezuela, Dominican Republic, and Morocco. Also restarted theproject of the panama canal.

William H. Taft
