  • Texas

    Texas became the 28th state in the Union, it was a slave state up until the civil war. Texas won from freedom against Mexico and became an independent state for a short period of time before joining the United States of America.
  • Mexican American War

    The mexican american war was the result of the idea of manifest destiny, because american believed they had a right to mexican land. This war caused the U.S. to gain california, new mexico and more land.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    A fictional novel describing slavery in the south. The stories written in the book are false, but based on true events. The book led to an increase in abolitionist movement.
  • Secession

    South Carolina was the first state to secede after the announcement of the new president Abraham Lincoln. This action led to the secession of 11 other Southern States, and then later formed the Confederate Army to fight for the right of slavery in the South.
  • Civil War

    The battles between the south and the north were most directly the result of their opposing views on slavery. The south felt their way of life was being threatened by the north's president Lincoln. The war ended when the south surrendered at Appomattox courthouse.
  • Reconstruction

    Reconstruction was the period after the Civil War where the country has a focus on rebuilding and fixing the problems that the war had caused. Lincoln have began the Reconstruction period up until his assassination where his vice president took over and basically abandoned lincoln's plan.
