    Sighet
    Sighet is Elie's hometown where he lived for 15 years, and the place where he met Moshe the Beadle and learned more about God. Sighet is the beginning and the place where the Hungarian police broke into Jewish homes and demanded that they give them their belongings such as jewelry, gold, and other valuables. After this, they are forced into the ghettos.
  • Sighet Ghetto

    Sighet Ghetto
    They lived in the ghettos for about two weeks, life went on as normal and people felt safe in the walls. But, that all shifts when Elie's father is told something dire and it is revealed that the ghetto is to be liquidated. His father directs Elie to wake up the camp and soon they are directed to pack their bags and this is when they are transported.
  • Train Car

    After the ghettos, they were put on cattle cars to be transported and stayed on them for about a week. During this time they could not get comfortable and soon a woman began screaming about fire and burning and then the men on the train have to silence her. After this week, they arrived at Birkenau.
  • Birkenau

    Birkenau
    When they arrived at Birkenau, they stayed there for about a week. During this time, Elie and his father are separated from his mother and they have to give up the rest of their belongings, and soon he and his father are about to stare death in the face when they are "saved". After this, their heads are shaven, they take a disinfecting shower, and they throw on clothes. After his physical change, they are transported to Auschwitz.

    Auschwitz
    They arrive at Auschwitz and stay here for about three weeks. When they first arrive, Elie's father has a colic attack and asks the Gypsy if he can use the restroom, the man gets angry at him and punches him but Elie's father says he's okay. Life was routine there, they'd wake up, do roll call, eat, but then they are finally transported to go to Buna.
  • Buna

    Buna
    When they arrived at Buna, Elie was summoned to the dentist where they wanted to pull his gold tooth. As Elie's father falls victim to Franek's beatings, Elie eventually gives up his golden crown for his father. Eventually, there is a bombing that happens and a bowl of soup is left unattended, as the men crawl towards the soup, one guy is shot and Elie recalls that the soup tasted like corpses. They stay at Buna for 5 to 6 months before they are shipped off to Gleiwitz.
  • Gleiwitz

    Gleiwitz
    As they enter Gleiwitz, the camp they stay three days at, prisoners begin to get crushed from everyone rushing in. Elie realizes that he's on top of Juliek, the musician that he befriended. Later, Juliek is seen dead. Elie's father is picked for the selection but Elie and he skillfully sneak away. Then, when they look back, they see that the rest of the prisoners are there to throw out the bodies of the dead, and Elie states that they almost confused his father for one.
  • Buchenwald

    Buchenwald
    They stay at Buchenwald for about 4-5 months and during this time, Elie's father passes away. His father is deathly sick and gets dysentery which makes him weaker than he already is. His father is beaten when asked for food, so Elie gives up his food for his sick father. When his father does pass away Elie isn't sad, but relieved, because now he can care for himself. After, the Nazis decide to kill the Jews and flee, but soon the resistance movement and American army come and free the prisoners.

    Paris was the place he ended up in many years after. In the past, he met a young girl in Buna who helped him after he had been beaten with words of strength. Many years after that, and after his escape, he met her again.
