  • Flight to England

    Flight to England
Mrs. Ullrich flew overnight to London's Heathrow Airport. It took six hours, but because of the time change it was 10am when she arrived! Do you think she packed a lot in her suitcase? The dragon is a mascot and you will see him later.
  • Arrival at Study Centre

    Arrival at Study Centre
A group of librarians, teachers and students were learning together this summer. This is the Study Centre where the classrooms and flats are, Notice how the British spell "center" differently than we do? A flat is an apartment in the United Kingdom. Do you know what countries make up the United
    Kingdom?
  • Getting Used to London

    Getting Used to London
Look at the name of this restaurant! It reminds me of books. London has lots of little cafes and food stands, even in the parks.
  • St. Paul's Cathedral

    St. Paul's Cathedral
Today we took a tour of a famous London building called St. Paul's Cathedral. It is more than 300 years old. You might remember that in "Mary Poppins," the lady who feeds the birds sits outside on the steps. Thie is what the big dome looks like from the inside! I found out that the inside steps were used in one of the Harry Potter movies.
  • British Library

    British Library
Mrs. Ullrich got a Reader's Pass at the British Library! That is like a library card, but at this library you have to read the books there, after a librarian finds them for you. It is somewhat like our Library of Congress. I love libraries and I stayed there all afternoon. The British Library had a display of book treasures.
  • Regent's Park & Primrose Hill

    Regent's Park & Primrose Hill
Today I went to a beautiful park. See the elephant made out of plants? Primrose Hill is in this park. That is where Mary Poppins flew kites with Jane and Michael Banks. (I tried to fly a kite also, but there was no wind.)
  • British Museum

    British Museum
The British Museum is huge. They have a ceiling that you can see the sky through. The museum has treasures from all over the world including some mummies. They have a lion statue that weighs six tons!
  • Highgate Cemetery

    Highgate Cemetery
Highgate is a pretty and historic cemetery outside London. I found this gravestone that looks like a book! We rode a doubledecker bus to get there! Do you think you would like to ride on the top floor?
  • Canal Boats

    Canal Boats
Today our study group took a ride on a canal boat. We saw these other boats on the canal and found out that people live on them. It is a community of houseboats.
  • Oxford University & Story Machine

    Oxford University & Story Machine
Oxford is one of the most famous universities in the world. C. S. Lewis (who wrote the "Chronicles of Narnia) and J.R.R. Tolkien (who can tell me what he wrote?) both taught there and were friends. I went to a Story Museum in that town. This is the Story Machine. Let's talk about how you think it works.
  • Roald Dahl Museum

    Roald Dahl Museum
Do you remember what books Roald Dahl wrote? (Take a good look at the door Mrs. Ullrich is smelling.) I will tell you much more about this museum and we will do some activities that I got ideas for there.
  • Tower of London

    Tower of London
Have you heard of the Tower of London? Kings and queens used to lock up their enemies there. Today it is more of a history museum. It is guarded by these Royal Guards because it is still the property of the Queen of England.
  • Paris, France

    Paris, France
Do you know the name of this building? I went up to the second viewing level and could see most of the city! We took a fast train from London to Paris called the Eurostar. It goes through a tunnel under the water!
