Hindenberg agrees to make Hitler Chancellor after elections in which no party formed a majority; Hitler received significant support because he promised rearmament and opposition to the Treaty of Versaille. Hitler also wanted territorial expansion.
-
Hitler was displeased that not all countries were disarming and ordered his ministers to withdraw from the League of Nations. Several countries had already been working outside of the Lauge to solve conflicts (Britain, France), but this was still a show of defiance against the Treaty of Versailles.
-
WIthouth any negotiation with other countries, Hitler sends troops into the Rhineland. This was expressly prohibited in the Treaty of Versailles. He also continues to rearm after this time at a faster pace. France and Britain do not intervene and Hitler's gamble comes out a victory for him.
