  • Corpus Christi de la Ysleta

    Corpus Christi de la Ysleta
    First permanent settlement of Europeans. Founded by SPANISH friars.
  • Alonso de Leon is sent by the Spanish crown to destroy Fort St. Louis. They find it already destroyed.

    Father Damian Massanet, a catholic church official, is with the group.
  • San Francisco de los Tejas is founded. It is the first Spanish mission in East Texas.

    Father Damian Massanet is instrumental in getting this mission founded. He wanted to help the Hasinai people (also called the Tejas).
  • San Juan Bautista Mission

    Father Francisco Hidalgo is at this mission.It is referred to as the "Mother of Texas Missions"
  • France establishes a colony near present day Biloxi, MI.

  • Louis de St. Denis reaches San Juan Bautista.

    Denis goes to ask Spain if a mission can be founded for the Tejas as requested Hidalgo.
  • Spain arrives at San Fransisco De Los Tejas

    They bring settlers with them, establishing six missions, a presidio - Nuestra Senora de low Dolores de los Tejas). It is located on the Neches River.
  • The French and Spanish War

    French soldiers from Louisiana seize a Spanish mission near present day Macodoches. The size of the army is exaggerated, and later that year Spanish families flee from East Texas to San Antonio. The Spanish form a force fo meet the French threat. The leader is Aguayo.
  • Aguayo Sets Out for East Texas

    Aguayo takes 500 soldiers/settlers and animals and moves a presidion from the Neches River to the Angelina River. He builds another presidio, Nuestra Senora del Pilar de los Adaes. St. Denis, now a french commander, tells Aguayo they are in French territory but doesn't do anything about it.
  • Spain decides expenses are too high.

    Spain closes the presidio on the Angelina River, moves three of its missions in East Texas to San Antonio, and decreases the number of soldiers at other missions and presidios.

    Spanish friars try to settle West and Central Texas.

    Spain builds three San Xavier missions along the San Gabriel River. They do not last long due to Native American discontent.
  • Mission Santa Cruz de San Saba

    Mission is founded, it suffers many Apache and Comanche attacks.
