A new liberal constitution is established, saying that the government is now federal and not central. Juan Alvarez and Benito Juarez influenced in this. This Constitution guaranteed freedom of speech and voting rights to men.

The three year civil war begins

Benito Juarez and the liberals win the War of Reform and he becomes president. He stops paying Mexico's debt to other countries and they get mad.

Because of Juarez's actions Spain England and France agree to the convention of London.

The mexicans won, and they helped slow down the French army going towards Mexico CIty.

France sends troops to Mexico City, and Júarez and his government leave. Napoleon III installs Maximilian, archduke of Austria, on the throne of a Mexican Empire.

Because of pressure from the United States, France leaves and Juarez takes over again.

President aJuarez dies because of a heart attack and Sebastian Lerdo de Tejada becomes president.

Porfirio Diaz takes over as president, and lasts in presidency until 1911. (except from 1880 to 1884)
