In 1935, Vladek meets Anja and they immediately fall in love. -
Engagement
By the end of 1936, Vladek and Anja get engaged and Vladek moves from Czestochwa to Sosnowiec. -
The Wedding
Vladek and Anja get married on February 14, 1937. Anja's father gives Vladek a "beautiful gold watch" as a wedding gift. Vladek and Anja also move into one of her father's apartments. -
Richieu
By the October of 1937, Anja gave birth to her and Vladek's first child, Richieu. -
The Sanitarium
At the beginning of 1938, Vladek takes Anja to a mental hospital in Czecheslovakia. On the train to the hospital, they passed a town with a Nazi flag flying high in the town center. It marked the first time Vladek had ever seen a swastika. -
Drafted
Vladek is drafted to fight for the Polish Army against Germany, -
The War Begins
In September of 1939, World War II begins. Within a short time of the war starting Vladek is captured and becomes a prisoner of war. As a POW, Vladek volunteers to work in the place of German soldiers who were drafted. -
Released!
In January of 1940, Vladek is released and is allowed to go home to his family. Richieu was 2 years old at the time of his return. -
Vladek the Teacher
Vladek began giving English lessons to his supervisor in return for clothes and food. -
Mandelbaum Dies
Mandelbaum, Vladek's friend that he has been traveling with, is killed at some point in early 1944. -
Glimpse of Happiness
While at Auschwitz in October 1944, Vladek sees a few thousand women and spots Anja among them. This is the only moment Vladek was ever happy at Auschwitz. He never saw her again. -
Gross-Rosen
All Jews at Auschwitz were evacuated and moved to the Gross-Rosen Camp in Germany. -
Dachau Camp
Everyone from Gross-Rosen were placed in Dachau where they awaited their deaths. After a majority of people became sick with typhus from being at the camp, they evacutated to Switzerland. -
World War II Ends!
World War II concludes and Vladek and his friends are eventually found by American soldiers. -

Garmisch Partenkirchen
Vladek is moved to a "displaced persons camp" in the German city of Garmisch Partenkirchen. While he was there, Vladek was diagnosed with typhus and diabetes. -
Reuniting with Anja
Vladek returns to Sosnowiec to reunite with Anja. -
Anja's Suicide
Anja killed herself by slitting her wrists. -
Vladek Dies
Vladek dies of Congestive Heart Failure.
