  • Rocket Summer

    The rocket descends on a
    small town in Ohio during winter, bringing summer in its heat.
  • Ylla

    Ylla's husband kills the first expidition of Earth men out of jealousy. We learn the Martians have telepathy, and also human flaws like jealousy and desire.
  • The Summer Night

    Martians Start to have thoughts about a strange song in a language that they don’t know.
  • The Earth Men

    Astronauts from the Second Expedition arrive at Mars, but they are not welcome with the fanfare that they thought they deserved. After being sent from house to house, they find themselves placed in an asylum. The chapter ends with one of the doctors killing them and then himself.
  • The Taxpayer

    A man fights hysterically to get on the next rocket to Mars. He says he wishes to get away from the government, and to escape the atomic war. The man is dragged off, and the rocket launches off to Mars.
  • The Third Expedition

    Captain John Black and his crew of 16 men(15- one dies on the trip) land on Mars to find a city almost identical to those on Earth, specifically Green Bluff, Ohio. They are greeted by relatives from each of their families who have passed away many years before, and told them this is where they came after death, which Black finds to be strange and unnerving. When night came, each of the men slept with their own reincarnated families. During the night, Black couldn’t sleep, because he felt afraid
  • -and the Moon Be Still as Bright

    spender disappears for a while then reappears. Spender kills off several of the men when he recognizes them. The captain gets Spender and they go and talk. Spender explains the lifestyle of the Martians and how he will kill off the rest of the men to save the planet Mars from being Earth’s next science experiment. Spender is then shot by the captain.
  • The Settlers

    All this chronicle is, is simple explanations as to why people take the journey to Mars.
  • The Green Morning

    This chronicle is about a man that wants to plant trees. He had passed out because of the thin air, so he wanted to plant an abundance of trees to counteract it. So he made it his goal to plant thousands of trees across Mars. Unfortunately, rain was not easy to predict. With a little bit of luck, however, it finally rained, causing thousands of trees to sprout and grow into full sized trees.
  • The Locusts

    This chronicle is about how everything is advancing, and how life there is becoming more like life on earth. I also feel like this chronicle compares humans to bugs, locusts.
  • Night Meeting

    In this chronicle, we meet Tomas Gomez who is living on Mars. Gomez meets one of the martians that has been living in the hills. The martian and Gomez talk to each. They both think that one is alive and one is dead, but they can’t decide on who is who. The two eventually go separate directions after leaving. They both think they were dreaming.
  • The shore

    This chronicle talks about how more people are comming from earth and about their different professions.
  • Fire Balloons

    Two priests go to mars. Peregrine wants to try and convert some of the martians. They find that most of the martians are dead but find a new race who look like spheres of blue fire. Peregrine believes these creatures are intelligent and have souls. They build a church for the blue spheres but they do not want it. Even though the priests didn't convert anyone, they feel better about themselves.
  • Interim

    This chronicle was about more people coming to Mars. It talked about them building another city there.
  • Way in the Middle of the Air

    In the this chronicle, there are some boys hiking and they go to one of the dead cities. The boys enter the house and begin kicking and screaming while trying to play music with what items they can find.. They however relate the whole thing as if it was describing Autumn not Marians.
  • The Naming of Names

    In this chronicle, we see that the people of earth are renaming the land of mars.. Most of the names are after the previous expeditions, like Nathaniel York town, Second Try, and Spender Hill. They also named cemeteries and began to bury the first dead.
  • Usher II

    The government on earth banned all tales of fantasy. A man named William Stendahl had a contractor head to mars and build a replica of the house of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe. Pikes helped him make all the robots that were inside the house. Garrett, comes to tell him that they will be coming to take down the house. William takes him inside for a tour and a robot ape kills him.
  • The Old Ones

    Old people finally journey to Mars. They come after Mars has been colonized and is safe.
  • The Martian

    LaFarge and his wife Anna are older people who have settled on Mars. One night, their deceased son Tom, shows up on their porch. Lafarge was shocked and his wife was devistated. he left the door unlocked for "tom" that night. As they arrive in town, “tom” dissappeared and turned into someone else. First, a family with a lost daughter sees him and he takes shape of their lost daughter. After that, A cop sees the martian as a criminal and people begin chasing him. he later dies.
  • The Luggage Store

    There is news about an atomic war happening donw on earth. A Priest and a Luggage salesman are talking about the chances of a war happening. They think that if a war did break out, the people on mars would go back to earth.
  • The Off Season

    Sam is displayed yet another time in the Martian Chronicles.He’s trying to create a hotdog stand on Mars to make profit apparently. He’s so focused on creating a hotdog stand that he shoots a Martian that is trying to relay him a message then buries him. Then he runs away in a stolen sand ship,shoots a few more martians destroys a few buildings then he runs out of ammo they catch only to relay the message still. They then gave him half of Mars he was astounded.
  • The Watchers

    I forget this chapter but i feel like it has something to do with watching.
  • The Silent Towns

    I think this is about the dead cities on mars.
  • The Long Years

    In this chronicle, we find that Mr. Hathaway and his family are some of the only people that are still on mars. After many years of waiting, we see Captain Wilder again. Mr, Hathaway seems to be having heart trouble and he soon dies due to the strain and excitement of seeing of seeing other people. we then learn that Hathaway's family died a long time ago and he replaced them with robots.
  • There Will Come Soft Rains

    In this chronicle, a mechanically operated house on Mars runs through it’s daily routine, even though there are no humans to interact with it. The day continues and at specific times the house performs tasks. At ten, a tree fell onto the house, which started a fire in the kitchen. The house tried to put out the flames but is unable to and the house burned down.
  • The Million-Year Picnic

    A Father takes his wife and three sons named Timothy, Michael, and Robert on a family sized rocket to Mars. The family got into a motorboat and went down one of the canals. The sons kept asking their father if they will see any Martians to which the father promises they will. They then heard an explosion and the father speeds the boat down stream. They figured out it was their rocket that exploaded.
