  • Prenatal Development & Birth

    I was born on Friday, 11/12/1993.
  • First Two Years: Biosocial Development

    I started to walk independently. My parents told me how excited they were to see me walk by myself.
  • First Two Years: Cognitive Development

    I said, "Mama" and "Dada" , and these were my fisrt two words.
  • First Two Years: Psychosocial Development

    I cried when I was left with strangers. I learned how to use the toilet. I also played a lot with my twin sister, and the kids next door.
  • Early Childhood: Biosocial Development

    I climbed out of bed without any help, and fed myself with spoon. during breakfast time.

    I started pre-school, and I first heard someone speaking English,and that was my pre-school teacher. I also imitated a group of traditional dancers who danced in my neighborhood every Saturday.

    I participated in my first dance audition and I was so proud making the cultural dance team.
    As a child, I used cans as pots, and made a little fire with pieces of wood. I cooked rice in the empty cans, and fed my doll with he food I prepared.

    I dressed up like a Monkey to a Kid's show in my city. I was portrayig a character I liked from a soap called "Journey to the West".

    My class went on a trip to the Capital City of Ghana called Accra. At Accra, we went to the zoo to see animals like hippotamus, and crocodiles which were not found in my city.
    I learned the names of new animals, and also got to see animals like monkeys, lions, and giraffes which I had seen the pictures in books before. It was an exciting trip,and I got to tell my parents about the trip when I got home.

    I was still dancing for the Traditional dancing team in my school, and I was dreaming of becoming next best dancer of my age group the following dancing season. My interest for dancing was growing more.

    I had learned more vocabulary in English and my Local dialect Akan. I spoke English at School,and Akan at home with my parents. I also learned French at School, but was only spoken with my teacher and friends,

    Daryl and I fought in class over a pencil color. We were whipped by our teacher and moved to the front seat near the teacher for monitoring. I was in kindergarten school moving on to 1 st grade.

    I was promoted from kindergarten to first grade, and I remember I got a new uniform which made me more excited on this day. I had learned more vacubulary in English and Akan language. I was more fluent in Akan language and I could read and speak the language.

    Mr.Paddy , my first grade teacher congratulated me for being the only student in the classroom to spell "kenkey", the name of a Ghanaian food made of corn. My Paddy congratulating me encoraged me to learn more vocabulary.

    I started to brush my teeth and hair with no help, and I did it very well.
  • Middle Childhood: Cognitive Development

    Madam Esther taught the class French Conjugations, and more French vocabulary. I communicated with Madam Esther and friends in French language during every class period.My class was put into groups for a spelling competition, and I was selected by group members for the competition. I placed second in the seven groups, and I was so proud.

    Karl and I were not friends aymore due to the differences of beliefs and ethnicity of our family.

    Theresa wanted us to steal her stuffs that were seized by Madam Thessa for misbehaving in class. I refused to agree with her due to my religious beliefs and values from home. she injured me with a sharp object on my shoulder the following day for informing Madam Thessa about her plans. I still can see the scar on my shoulder.

    I was chosen by my class teacher to be the class's office girl, and I was so proud for having that position that I did whatever I have to do it maintain that position. I became more responsible.

    I was nominated and voted in by the School authorities and friends as a Girls' School Prefect. This position made me the leader of the whole student body. I was so proud, and excited.
  • Adolescence: Biosocial Development

    I started to realize the body changes like breast development, and I gained a little bit of change. The boys in my class teased me for developing breast.

    I had my first mentruation on this day, and I told my twin sister about it. I was shy to tell my parents about it, but I finally did as my mother told me her experience. She educated me more about sex on this day.

    I was so concious of how I eat ,dressed and walked. I was mostly thiking people were looking at me and judging me for my appearance.
    For attention from friends and famliy, I always did something bad or good that will draw attention to myself.
    Also, I used to analyze the disadvantages and advantages of behaviors and actions of people. The mentality that everything has to be perfect sticked with me.
  • Adolescence: Psychosocial Development

    I made friends with Marian and Joana. We were really close and shared almost everything like our clothes, food, jewelry and so on. We used to dress in same colors when we went out.
    I also started dating Henry, and I showed pictures of him to my friends, and family. I printed a picture of him, and used it as a cover for my note books.
    On the other hand, Marian, Joana and I talked about our boyfriends almost everyday.
  • Emerging Adult: Biosocial Development

    I turned 18 years , and my friends took me out for a drink since the drinking age in Ghana is 18 years. I had a lot of fun, and I got drunk as well. I woke up the next day very tired, and I learned how to control the amount of alcohol I consume afterwards.

    I came to the United States to start my college education. I started going to Schoolcraft College on this day and I made friends from my class and club meetings. These friends of mine showed me around the community and I hang out with them sometimes to have fun. We indulge in all kinds of risky sports like sky diving.

    I am so excited to graduate with Associate of Science from Schoolcraft College beacause I am getting close to my future career as a nurse.

    My boyfriend and I are committed to our relationship, and we planning on meeting my parents on this day.

    I will cut my hair short. I will also go and see the doctor for physical examination. I will start eating more vegetables and fruits to maintain a good health as I am showing early signs of diabetes.

    I will decide to focus on working with cancer patients only so I can become an expert.

    I will retire from working as a nurse, and I will stay home to spend time with my husband who had already retired.

    I will be concious of what I wear. I will start to wear flat shoes, and wear long pants even when I go to the gym. I will say, " I'm too old to show my aged body."

    My daughter will get married at St. John Lutheran Church. I will be a proud "mama", and I will kiss her good bye as she moves to her new home.

    I will keep on eating healthy, stop drinking alcohol, and continue exercising daily since diabetes is common in my family.

    Out of boredom, I will start volunteering for a near by local hospital to keep me active.

    My children and grand children will surprise me and my faithful husband on our fiftieth annniversary.
  • Death and Dying

    I will turn 100 years on this day, and it will be the same day that I will leave earth. I will be in the hospital for diabetes treatment, and I will pray to God for a peaceful death.
