    Nate

Seven significant events in my own life.
  • First friend of Kindergarten

My very first friend I met in Kindergarten was Andrew Magalona. We became best friends. We have had our struggles and periods when we weren't as close, but even today, we are still friends. We've known each other for 10 years (K-9th) and we have 3 more years together at Oxford.
  • Brother leaves for college

My older brother, Kurt, was going to attend UC Berkeley. We drove up to Berkeley to drop off my brother for his spring semester. This is a very significant moment, because I had never lost someone so impactful in my life. My brother had always been there for me and I had to say goodbye as he left for college.
  • 5th Grade Student Council

I was elected to Student Council in the 5th grade. My position was "Character Education." Every month, I would give speeches to the rest of the student body to educate them on valuable character traits, such as respect and responsibility. This really helped me overcome my fear of public speaking. Before, I was very shy. My experience as Character Education has greatly helped me overcome my fear.
  • 1st time to DQ with Oxford friends

For the first week or two at Oxford Academy, I would get picked up and go home right after school. One day, my friends, Noel and Crystal, asked me to stay after school and walk to Dairy Queen with them. This marked the first of many days spent after school with friends. Many memories have been made. Crystal and Noel were my first two closest friends made at Oxford.
  • Parents buy me a gym membership

I was overweight when I was younger. Starting of 7th grade, I began becoming interested in sports. I joined intramural flag football and basketball. Then, I asked my parents about a gym membership. They bought me a membership to 24 hour fitness. I began researching about fitness and proper nutrition. I became aware of the foods I ate and started making healthier decisions. The upcoming summer, I created my own fitness plan and lost 10 pounds of weight.
  • Father jokingly says, "Only 800 Fridays left."

One Friday night, my dad came home and said, "Wow, Friday again! Comes by so fast. There'll only be 800 Fridays left." (Referring to before he passes away.) My dad said this jokingly and with a smile, but it made me realize my parents aren't going to be in my life forever. I take them for granted, but truth is, they might actually only have 800 Fridays left. Time is beginning to pass even faster now, and I'm scared for when the countdown reaches 0.
  • Oxford Career Night

I attended Oxford's Alumni Night. Oxford Graduates came back to share their experinece in college and in their career. They all turned out successful in their own way. The one common aspect between all of them was the fact they were involved in high school. They did not just exceed in academics; all of them were either involved in music, sports, or a club. I realized in order to be successful, I must be well-rounded in my life.
