  • Treaty of Versailles Signed

    The reparations clause of the Treaty of Versailles put Germany in a bad position. This allowed Hitler to rise to power because the Germans wanted a powerful leader who promised to change things.
  • Mussolini Gets Power

    The King of Italy gives power to Mussolini because he fears the fascists. This allows Mussolini to start preparing Italy for WWII.
  • Beer Hall Putsch

    Hitler and the Nazi Party tried a coup, starting in Munich. They first tried to seize control of the state government, then the federal government, but they failed and Hitler was arrested.
  • Hitler Becomes Führer of The Nazi Party

    Hitler was earlier released from prison after serving 9 months for treason. Then, he declares his leadership of the Nazi Party at the beer hall where his failed coup began.
  • FDR is Elected President

    FDR's presidency helped get America out of the Great Depression, better allowing them to take part in WWII. He also was president throughout almost all of WWII, making many decisions for America.
  • Hitler Takes Power As Chancellor

    Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany. He suspends the constitution and takes power as dictator.
  • Italy Invades Ethiopia

    In 1896, Ethiopia resisted Italian invasion. In 1935, Mussolini invades Ethiopia to boost Italian nationalism.
  • Germany Re-Occupies the Rhineland

    The Rhineland was part of Germany. But, it was part of the demilitarized zone, so this went against the Treaty of Versailles.
  • Hitler Annexes Austria

    Germany takes Austria and adds it to Germany. Despite Austria being willing, this is still a violation of the Treaty of Versailles.
  • Kristallnacht

    Nazis and Hitler Youth cause anti-Jewish pogroms throughout Germany. Over 7000 Jewish businesses are destroyed and almost 100 Jews are killed.
