My name is Carmen M. ayala Fuentes. I was born in Fajardo Puerto Rico.

I satarted Kindergarten.

I started first grade at a little school in my home town of Loiza, Puerto Rico.

After I finished first grade my parents decided to move to New York for better opportunities of life.

I meet new friends. Eve, Gregory, James, Billy J, Maria, Christina, and Adam. even though I din't apeak English my friends were very patient.

Little by little I satrted acquiring street language in other words the ghetto language.

I satarted a new school, new challenges. I started the second grade at PS 13 in Yonkers, New York. My teacher's name was Mrs. Arena. I had the worst expirience in my life as a student. That teacher was very bad. Mrs. Arena made me cry a couple of times because she kind of made fun of me because of my pronounciation. I remember that I missed pronounced the word beach so I got punished. I aslo started in the ESL classroom for two hours daily.

I learned so many things with my third grade teacher. Her name was Mrs. Mills. By the time I finished the third grade I didn't have to go to the ESL classroom.

Many changes occured in the Department of ED. Many students were switched to different schools. I was moved to PS 21 where I graduated from 6th grade.

I statrted JRH School at Ralhp Waldo Emeron Performing Arts School. I joined the dance class. I preformed in many school plays as a ballet dancer. I also took the Drama class. I acted in the play The West Side Story.

In 9th grade I attended to Lincoln High School.

My parents decided to move back to Puerto Rico.

I graduated from high school.

I went back to New York after 21 years. I felt like 6 years old again when I reunited with my childhood friends my cousins and other peolple who wee part of my life.

Every time I got home from school i helped my sisters with their school work becasu my parents didn't know the language. sometimes I had to miss school because I has to go with my parents to their appointments to help them out. I was their interpreter.
