The Anschluss
Hitler's plan to reunite German speaking people under one empire, called "Third Reich". The Austrian chancellor was threatened by HItler to allow Nazis into high positions, to whitch the chancellor quickly complied. Austrian people quickly accepted the Anschluss when HItler's troops announced it. -
The Munich Conference
Hitler again was trying to take over part of a german-speaking country: Sudentenland, Czechoslovakia. Czechs resisted: surrounding territories-- France and the Soviet Union-- were all for Hitler, in fear that they'd get invaded. For fear of another war, British prime minister allowed Hitler to take over Sudentenland. -
The Nazi Soviet Pact
Hitler was trying to invade Poland, so the Soviet Union made a pact with HItler to keep the peace and let the USSR out of a war. -
Danzig and the Polish Corridor
Hitler had already taken Sudetenland, but now he wanted Danzig, an area that once belonged to Germany prior to WWI. Hitler wanted to create a highway connecting Germany, Danzig, and East Prussia from accross Poland. Britain and France quit trying to appease HItler because it didn't work. They even tried pushing Poland to refuse Hitler's demands so that they could go to war with Germany. -
The War Begins
Germany invaded Poland, allowing the Soviet Union to invade from the east. France and Britain declared war on Germany. (Known as the German Blitzkrieg)
