Key Events Leading Up To The War of 1812

  • Washington Farwell Address

    At his farewell address he tried to express his hopes on what he thought could guide the principles for the country and upcoming elected officials. Give his last message to the citizens, don't create political parties and to not form alliances with foreign nations.
  • Washington Proclamation of Neutrality

    This was an announcement by George Washington declaring the U.S neutral between the conflict between France and Great Britain.Wanted to trade with them peacefully.
  • Jay's Treaty

    Resolved disputes between the United States and Great Britain after the Revolutionary War. Reinforced the treaty of Paris to remove G.B from ports in the U.S
  • Embargo Act of 1807

    President Jefferson's resistance to British and French interference with U.S merchant ships carrying war materials to Europe.
  • Chesapeake - Leopard Affair

    Was a naval war that happened between the British warship HMS Leopard and the American ship USS Chesapeake.
  • Impressment of Sailors

    The practice of Britain's Navy sending officers on American ships, inspect the crew, and seize the sailors that were accused from coming from British ships. They needed more sailors because of the war with France.
  • Tecumseh

    Native American warrior and chief who was the leader of a tribe. He established a Native American nation east of the Mississippi River under the British protection.
  • War of 1812 begins

    Was rough for America. Failed on the first try to invade. Middle of war they were still suffering.White house burned down. Majority of the war was fought in New England.

    The peace treaty that ended the War of 1812. Neither side gained or loss land so neither one really won. So that means it was a "receedo"

    This battle took place after the Treaty of ghent but before news could get to the soldiers, they were already fighting and the U.S had won.
