Moishe is the man who helped Elie in his religious journey. He was also the first person from Elie's city to see what the war was about to entail, yet knowbody believed him.

This moment is a rather big deal in the book because the Jews are still hopeful at this point and have no idea what is ahead of them.

At this moment the Jews see the crematorium and the future and rumors of the war become reality. Elie and his father are sent to one line while his mother and sister are sent to the other.

This young woman didn't talk because as Elie was to find out later, she was passed as Aryan from her looks. Yet, really she was a Jewish girl. The one time she spoke was to encourage Elie to not give up on this harsh journey.

Elie gets a break from work and gets to rest in some what better conditions while he heals.

Elie later discovers that the hospital was liberated a few days after he left. If he wouldn't have left he would have been out of his misery alot sooner.

At this point Elie promises to himslef to never leave his father the way the Rabbi's son did.
