The history of the Jewish people began with Abram and his family including his son Issac, his son Jacob, and their descendants called the Israelites. The twelve tribes are named after Jacob's twelve sons. Jacob's son went to Egypt where the people of Irsrael were prosperous for 150 years.

Moses leads the Israelites out of Egypt, Yahweh assembled the Covenant of Sinai, settled in the promise land, and fought against the Israelites enemies.

Saul and David were the first two kings of the new kingdom of Israel. David was the greatest of the Hebrew Kings, establishing Jerusalem and his son Solomon built the Temple. After Solomon's death the kingdom was divided in two. The northern kingdom of Israel and southern kingdom of Judah.

The northern kingdom of Israel was destroyed by the Assyrians and the southern part survived until the Babylonians took over. The Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed and thousands of people were captured in captivity.

The Persians came and drove out the Babylonians and the captured Israelites were able to go back home to Jerusalem. The rebuilt the Temple and calimed the name of Jews.
