Jacques Cartier was born on December 23rd, 1492, in Saint-Malo, France.

At the age of 29, Jacques marries Mary Catherine des Granches, the daughter of a French government official.

Jacques becomes an explorer. He departs from France, in search of new, unexplored land. He finds Canada, and claims it for France, he also discovers the Iroquois, Which were a Native-American tribe in Canada.

Jacques embarks on another journey, back to Canada, to map the land, and explore more. On his journey, he and his crew are infected with scurvy, but once he landed in Canada, the natives he encountered on his last voyage helped him and his crew, and within the week, his scurvy was gone.

Jacques and his crew return from Canada, his mission was ultimately a failure. However, Jacques remained optimistic, as he later would embark on his final, third mission.

Jacques sets sail -- at the age of 50 -- with 5 ships and 1500 men. On his voyage. His instructions were to settle in the new world. Jacques and his men settled Charlesbourg-Royal, the first French settlement in North America.

Jacques met with the natives once more, telling them that their leader had grown sickly and died. And lied that the other natives that accompanied him back to France on his last voyage had decided to settle in France.

Jacques and his men decided to abandon their forts that they built on their last voyage, and built Charlesbourg-Royal 14 km away. The Natives were not pleased with Jacques during his voyage. So the natives attacked Jacques' newly founded settlement. By the end of the year, the settlement was abandoned.

Jacques and his men return to France, with as few casualties from the Native attacks as possible. This would be Jacques' third journey

On September 1st, 1557, Cartier died from typhus during an epidemic. He died at the age of 65.
