Triple Alliance
The triple alliance was made up of Germany,Austria-Hungry, and Italy.Germany and Austria-Hungry started off with an alliance in 1879. Then Italy came to them looking ti join with them in their alliance. Italy wanted to join for one main reason they wanted support against France. The alliance in tailed that if France was to attack Italy. Germany and Austria-Hungry would help them fight the war.This effected World war 1 because it showed where the alliences were when the war started. -
Rise of Kaiser Wilhelm II
Wilhelm became the emperor of Germany in 1888 after Frederick II died. Wilhelm was very driven to improve the military and increase its strength. His goal was to make the German armies as strong as the Britians Royal Navy.This contributed to World War 1 because the power of the countries effected the war greatly. -
Alliance of Russia and France
This dual alliance was a military pact that was between Russia and France. Both of these countries kept this secret, when Germany found out they thought that the alliance would never stick. But it did ,and it messed up the whole alliance system. This also frightened Germany because if they were to go to war to ether France or Russia they woul have to fight a two front war. The alliance between France and Russia was a huge part of the war because once Russia went into war then France joined in. -
Creation of Triple Entente
Great Britain was alarmed when Wilhelm built up his army so they made an entente with France.Then Great Britain made an entente with Russia and France. This entente meant that Britain could not fight with France and Russia,but France and Russia could fight with Britain. An entente is an understanding between different countries. The triple entente greatly helped Austria in the war, because once Russia helped Austria then Britain and France joined in to help them fight. -
Austria Annexing Bosnia and Herzgovina
Austria took over Bosnia and Herzegovina.In europe to maintain the balance of power it was given to Austrian Hungarian empire as coveted land.But both the Turks and the Russians were very interested in taking over those providences .They both were not in a position to fight for it.f Austria did not have Bosnia and Herzegovina the war would have been very different. -

Militarism was what was basically going on in the Arms Race. Militarism is the belief that a country should maintain a strong military capability and be prepared to use it aggressively to defend or promote national interests. It all started when one of the countries started to build up its armies all the other countries felt obliged to build theirs too. They also fet that they needed an easy mobalizing army.They did this so that they felt they had an equal playing field when they fought. -
Assassaination of Archduke Ferdinand
Archduke Ferdinand and his wife went to Sarajevo to visit. While they were in their car they were both shot. The killer was named Gavrilo Princip he was a member of a group called the Black hand who's mission was to rid Bosnia of Austrian rulers. Because of he assassination Austria decided that serbia had to pay, so they sent them a list of demands. Serbia knowing that if they didn't complete the demands that they would go to war. The First Declaration of War
After Serbia didn't complete all of the demand that Austria had called for they declared war on Serbia. That day Russia an ally of Serbia mobilized its army and took action.Every leader in Europe soon found out and thought that Europe was to fragile to have a war.All of the leaders strongly agreed that Russia and Austria should talk it over.But it was to late they were already fighting. -
Great Britain Declares War on Germany
Russia Expected to also go to war with Germany because they are allies with Austria so they also set up their armies on Germanys border. Soon after Germany declared war on Russia.Then Russia looked for help from the French, But Germany went right to action and declared war on France 2 days after they declared war on Russia. In a domino effect Great Britain also joined in on the war.By then Everyone knew what the central powers were. Central powers are the lines that were clearly drawn. -
The Battle Lines Are Drawn
On one side there was Austria-Hungary and Germany then Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire Then later joined the central powers hoping to gain back some of their land. then on the other side there was Great Britain, France, and Russia.Later Japan joined in,then Italy.
