    At birth infants began to communicate through eye contact.
    Babies began to Cooing at the age of 2 months.
    At about 6 months babies began babbling, vowel combinations. Between 8-12 months infants use preverbal gestures, to convey information.
    By the first year, infants understand word meaning. Between 18-24 months telegraph speech began.
  • Ages 2-5

    Children begin to use complex sentences containing more than one clause. Vocabulary increases to 250 words by combining two words .
  • Ages 6-12

    During school age years children eventually exceed comprehension of 40,000 words. Children also enlarge their vocabularies by analyzing the structure of complex words.
