John Wesley (1703-1791) was the founder of Methodism. The movement took place during much of the 18th century when a group of men sought to reform the Church of England from within.

Newcomen (1664-1729) invented the first steam engine in 1712.It was commonly called the Newcomen Engine and was a precursor to the Watt Steam Engine.

LeBlanc (1742-1806) is credited with being able to first derive soda from common salt. His dicovery was key to making soap, glass and other products from soda ash.

Watt (1736-1819) built off of Newcomen and invented the Watt Steam Engine. It was a form of pump used to remove water from mines.

Hargreaves (1720-1778) was one of three inventors credited with mechanizing spinning. He invented the spinning jenny which allowed the operator to now spin eight threads at once.

Crompton (1753-1827) invented the spinning mule, which spun textile fibers into yarn.

Cartwright (1743-1823) invented the power loom. It's a mechanized loom powered by a line shaft made to make weaving easier.

Whitney (1765-1825) invented the Cotton Gin. It made the process of separating cotton from its seeds easier.

Volta (1745-1827) invented the electrical battery. His was the first to emit a steady and lasting current for power.

Fulton (1765-1815) invented the commercially successful steamboat. It was called the "North River Steamboat and it ferried passengers from New York to Albany.
