Wanting a new start and some money to help my family, I packed my bags and boarded S. S Shinyo Maru for Angel Island. Boarding the boat with the other chinese men people pushed and shoved to get settled in first. Many didnt know if this was the right decision, but all had a large abount of hope for Gum Saan ( the golden mountain ). Ive come for the oppurtunity to find wealth and gain enough money to go back home to my family. I plan on sending money to my family back home as soon as I can.

    Arrival At Angle Island:
The voyage lasted 27 days. Many men and women were exited to come to America so they could be free from this ship and thier past life. We all essembled into a large court house and were medically examined and questioned about our health and life. The Americans broke many hearts that day but they also gave a new beggining to many of my people. The sanity conditions were really harsh and disgusting here but luckly I got out alive and healthy.

Starting a new life: Finding a job.
Finding a job in the US is very difficult, the first job I found was being a miner and I took the oppurtunity. I moved to North Sacramento to find more oppurtunities. You work a lot of dangerous jobs for almost no pay. The whites have the easier and less dangerous places to mine. My boss pays me less than the other miners, and I dont know why. The people at work are very bitter and cold-harded. They say the believe in peace, but they love to discriminate.

Today the Chinese Exclusion Act was passed. Ive become very sucessful in the mining business and I'm getting paid like the rest of the men. The Americans are ery friendly and I am gaining enough money to send back home. North Sacramento is a populted with chinese so the culture is still alive in many parts. I will soon be heading home after I make enough money though.
  • Heading Home

    Heading Home
I am back on Angles Island to head back home. America has brought me many riches and failures. I've made many friends that will be in my memories. Now its time to head back home. Going back home is the right thing to go. I need to go back to my country where I belong so I can pick up where I left off. I've put life back home aside to help my family for a while. No its time to face reality and head home, seeing how I've gained enough money for many years to come.
