    Battle of Hastings
    The battle was between the Norman-French army of Duke William II of Normandy and the English army under King Harold II. The battle ended after many hours with the Normans winning and King Harold dead. Later on William would be crowned the king of England.

    Marco Polo grew up in Venice his father and Uncle were absent when he was young. They went on extensive travels in China. When Marco was older, 17, he jioned them on the journey across Asia.

    Marco Polo publishes his book.
    Marco Polo is know for his travels on the silk road. For 24 years Marco journeyed across Asia. When he returned homehe was captured and spent a year in a Genoese prison. While in this prison he told of his adventures and "his cellmate Rustichello da Pisa wrote them down." (Asian, 1)

    The Renaissance was an intellectual and artistic movement. The arts began to grow and expand and this time also saw the creation of science. It was a time of great influences such as "Humansim, Machiavelli, da Vinci, the Medici Family, and Martin Luther. " (Century,1)

    Birth of Geoffrey Chaucer
    Geoffrey Chaucer was an "English author, poet, philosopher, bureaucrat (courtier), and diplomat, who is best known as the author of The Canterbury Tales." (Geoffrey, 1) Because of his many works and famous poems he is refered to as "the father of English literature.

    The Plague began
    The black plague only lasted for about 3-5 years it managed to
    kill somewhere between 25-50% of Europe's population. There were several variations of the plague bubonic, pneumonic, and septicemic. It caused wide spread panick because it killed so many in such a short time, and nobody knew how to cure it. It was believed to be spread by rodents and fleas.

    Birth of Joan of Arc
    Joan of Arc was born in Domrémy during a time of war between the French and English. Growing up she heard many tales of the war and the state that France was in worried her. She began to her the vioces of angels speaking to her. They told her she dould end the war. She traveled long distances to meet the king and it was then decided that she would lead and army. She ended up burning on the stake but she was an important symbol in the war.

    Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing Press

    Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing Press
    Using money that he had borrowed Johannes Getenberg was able to invent the printing press in 1436. It used a series of "moveable wooden or metal letters" that had ink rolled over the surface of the letters before being pressed. This invention allowed for "rapid development in the sciences, arts and religion" since people were better able to transport and share ideas. (Johannes,1)

    Birth of Leonardo da Vinci
    Leonardo is best know for his famous painting Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa depics the "wife of Francesco del Giocondo". People who see the painting note the "sitter's ambiguous half smile." The painting is today kept in the Louvre Museum in Paris

    Birth of Ferdinand Magellan
    "Ferdinand Magellan was born in 1480 in Sabrosa, Portugal to Rui de Magalhaes and Alda de Mesquita." (Ferdinand, 1) On his most famous expidition in 1519 he lead the first expidition Ferdinand Magellan was the leader of the first expedition to circumnavigate the real world. He was the first European to sail across the Pacific Ocean and discovered a route by which ships could sail a complete circle around the world.

    Christopher Columbus begins his sails
    Christopher Columbus began his journey from Spain and sailed in search for a "direct water route west from Europe to Asia." (Christopher, 1) He had hoped to sail west across the Atlantic and reach Asia, but he instead discovered the Americas. The first place that Columbus reached were the Bahamas where he sailed from island to island. He had hoped to find valuable gems and gold, but he returned home empty handed.

    Birth of Anne Boleyn
    Anne Boleyn married King Henry VIII in 1533. She was his secound wife. Their marriage was controversal from the begining because in order to marry her Henry had to declare his marriage to Catherine void. Henry and Anne's marriage ended in disaster after Anne could not provide Henry with a male heir. In 1536 Henry had Anne executed.

    Michelangelo paints the Sistine Chapel
    Originally when requested by Pope Julius II to paint the Sistine Chapel Michelangelo had refused. He eventually gave in though. The task was very difficult, and Michelangelo was forced to work on scaffolding to reach the ceilings.

    Birth of Galileo Galilei
    Galileo Galilei was an Italian physicist, mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher who played a major role in the Scientific Revolution. His achievements include improvements to the telescope and consequent astronomical observations. He was born in Pisa and had several younger sibling.

    Birth of Isaac Newton
    From an early childhodd Isaac was intrested in how things worked. As he got to school he did well but then he made many descoveries in the fields of scince in math very rapidly. He "extended the binomial theorem, invented calculus, discovered the law of universal gravitation," and also proved that "white light is composed of all colors." (Isaac, 1)
