    The law suspended civil liberties and took away rights from the German people.
  • Enabling Act

    This Act allowed Hitler to make laws without the approval of the Reichstag. This Act gave Hitler the power of a dictator, as he was able to do whatever he wanted without the approval of the people.
  • Formation of the Gestapo

    The Gestapo, or secret police, were created to keep an eye on German citizens and to keep them obeying Hitler's commands. The people could be arrested for no reason, and could be held without being charged. They could be arrested based off of anyone suspicions.
  • Banning of Workers Unions

    Workers Unions were banned by the Nazi Party. This resulted in the loss of many workers rights.
  • Book Burnings

    The first of many mass book burning's took place in Nazi Germany. This allowed the Nazi Party to control what ideas the people could be exposed to. It also allowed them to eliminate the spread of ideas they were against. It was an act that went against freedom of speech and expression
  • Banning of Opposition Parties

    Hitler announces that the Nazi Party is the only party in Germany, and that all others were banned. This meant that the Nazi's could do whatever they wanted, and that having any ideology that opposed the Nazi's ideas was not allowed.
  • Nazi Majority Elected

    The Nazi Party won 95% of the vote, officially turning Germany into a single party state. This meant that the Nazi's could do as they pleased without any opposition.
  • Night of Long Knives

    The name is given to the couple of days in which any remaining opposition to Hitler was eliminated. Any opposition within the Nazi Party or outside was squashed by a series of executions and arrests. Estimates vary on the number of deaths from 80 to 200. This was a show of power for Hitler, as well as a way to get rid of anyone in his way.
  • Anchluss

    Hitler annexed Austria and claimed he would be reuniting Germans. However, he took it over by threatening the Austrian chancellor with military action if he would not give it up. He did not ask the people what they wanted, and called any poll calling for Austrian independence a fraud.
  • Kristallnacht

    This night was one of the first large scale attacks on the Jewish people of Germany. There had been many instances of antisemitism by the Nazi's, but this was the biggest attack yet. Jewish synagogues, businesses, schools, and homes were attacked and looted, leaving many destroyed. The attacks were committed by citizens and soldiers alike, and resulted in the deaths of over 90 Jewish Germans.
