Hitler is born
On April 20th, 1889, Adolf Hitler was born. He was born at about 6:30pm. He was born just across the border from German Bavaria, in the small austrain village of Braunau Am Inn. This event is very important because if Hitler was never born, then he obviously never would have rose to power, since he wouldn't have even been here. -
WW1 ends with German defeat
On November 11th, 1918, WW1 is ended with the German's defeat. Faced with political unrest and starvation at home, an economy in ruins, and mounting defeats on the battlefield, the German generals requested armstice negotiations with the allies on this day. This is important because this defeat made many German's upset and unable to handle the loss, including Adolf Hitler. Hitler started to blame people like the Jews for the loss. This is what caused Hitler to hate on the Jewish people. -
Hitler named leader of the Nazi party
In 1921 Adolf Hitler wa named leader of the Nazi party. This is very important to his rise to power because it gave him full control over the Nazi party. The Nazis all supported Hitler and helped him to do what he wanted. This is the first time Hitler really had control over something. -
The Beer Hall Putsch
Financial events that unfolded between the years 1921 and 1923 promted Hitler and the Nazis to attempt to take over Germany. Britain and France demanded that Germany pay for the damages caused by WW1. The government decided to make these payments, so the Nazis thought it was time to strike. This is an important event because it's the first time Hitler tried to take Germany, even though he was unsuccessful. This could've taught him what not to do next time, and maybe helped him to be successful. -
Hitler on trial for treason
On February 26th, 1929, Adolf Hitler had a trial for what he did in the Beer Hall Putsch. He was on trial for treason because of his attempt to take over Germany. This is an important event because Hitler actually used it as propaganda. Hitler took responsibility for what he did, but claimed it was out of patriotism and because he wanted a better Germany. During this trial Hitler could've gotten more people to support him and be on his side. -
The great depression begins
When the stock market crahsed on Wall Street, on October 29th, 1929, it affected the whole world, causing disaterous effects. The German economy dropped and people started to get laid off. This is imprtant because Hitler knew this was the perfect time for him to try to take Germany once again. Since people were having such a rough time, he could use that to his advantage. He could promised people that he would get them out of this depression and create a better Germany. -
Hitler runs for president
In 1932, Hitler decides to run for president. This is very important in his rise to power because it is a big step foward for him in politics. The people of Germany are desperate to get out of the depression at this time, and Hitler promises to do just that. This is such a big step forward for him because it just brings him that much closer to leadership. -
The republic collapses
Between the years of 1932 and 1933 the republic in Germany collapses. This is an opposing party to Hitler so it made it much easier for him to take over. This is important because once the republic collapsed, it made it much easier for Hitler to take Germany. Once they were out of the way, Hitler gained more power which really helped him on his way to becoming the dictator of Germany. -
Hitler named the chancellor of Germany
In 1933, Hitler and the conservative leader argued over Hitler's demand for new elections. It was the final arguement that finally resulted in Hitler becoming the chancellor of Germany. This is a very important step towards Hitler gaining power because it brought him very close to being the leader of Germany. He now had a high rank in the German government, which brought him very close to being at the top. He promised people he would help get them out of depression, gaining the support of many. -
Hitler becomes the dictator of Germany
On March 5th, 1933, the Nazis started to arrest the political enemies of Hitler. Eventually there were no parties left to run against Hitler. Hitler passed a law that basically gave him full control and dictatorship, as he could make any desicions without permission of the government. This is the most important step in his rise to power, as it is when he really gains full power. Hitler now has the power to do anything he wants, and he is finally successful in his attempt to take over Germany.
