    National Socialist German Workers’ Party (Nazis)
    The Nazis started off as a small political party that was pushing for nationalism and was using anti-Jewish ideas.

    Hitler takes control of the Nazis

    Hitler attended his first Nazi meeting in 1919. In 1921 Hitler declared himself the fuehrer (absolute leader) of the party. After taking control, he then ordered that there be an enforcement group that were later known as the Brownshirts.

    Hitler gets arrested and Nazis gain support

    Hitler attempted to overthrow the government but did not succeed and was arrested. In 1928 the farmers, small business owners, and other middle class working people joined the Nazi party because they felt ignored by the government.
  • The Great Depression

    In 1929 many German voters wanted a more radical group in charge of the government so they voted for Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party. In July 1932 the elections revealed that the Nazi party won an overwhelming amount of 230 seats.

    Dealing with Protestors and Presidents

    Hitler started the construction of concentration camps in early 1933 as a way to deal with political leaders who didn't agree with the Nazi idea.
  • The Chancellor Deal

    The Chancellor Deal
    Adolf Hitler wanted to be a chancellor but the President, Paul von Hindenburg did not want the “ridiculous Austrian corporal" for the position. Adolf's only supporter in the government, Franz Von Papen, fought for him to get the job and the president finally gave in. This allowed Hitler to creat and be in charge of his own government.
  • The Reichstag Fire

    To this day nobody knows exactly who started the fire on their government building. Because of this the President declared a state of emergency. This allowed Hitler to swoop in and start his control of power and making his own laws.
  • The Enabling Act

    The Nazis introduced the Enabling Act which allowed Hitler to rule without the permission of anyone else. When they took control they put in their law that the Nazi party was to be the only political group in Germany, and if they found out about another group being formed, you would be killed.
  • The President's Death

    President Paul von Hindendurg died August 2, 1934. Hitler took total control of Germany after.

    The Rearmament

    In 1935, Hitler reinstated the draft to prepare for his war plan. By 1939 the army had 900,000 soldiers, 8,000 aircrafts, and 95 warships.
  • Anschluss

    Austria developed their own Nazi group. Hitler told them to give up power of their group and turn it over to Germany or face invasion. German forces then crossed the boarder and Germany and Austria were then one
  • Czechoslovakia and the Munich Agreement

    Czechoslovakia and the Munich Agreement
    There were German speakers in Sudetenland, a western region of Czechoslovakia. Hitler wanted to have access to them so he and other leaders met up and put together the Munich Agreement. This was saying that Hitler would have access to Sudetenland but no other parts of Czechoslovakia.
