Hitler’s Rise To Power

  • The German Works Party

    The German Works Party
    In September of 1919, Hitler joined the German Workers party after being assigned to spy on it for the German Army in June. He respected the party's opposition to the Treaty of Versailles and equal treatment of Jews in Germany. Hitler quickly became one of the most prominent speakers of the party.
  • German Worker's Party

    German Worker's Party
    On February 24th, Hitler led a political meeting of over 2,000 people. He announced the National Socialist Program later known as the Nazi Party.
  • Chairman of the NSDAP

    Chairman of the NSDAP
    Hitler threatened to resign from the NSDAP over the possibility of merging with the German Socialist Party. the party agreed not to merge with the rival party and to appoint Hitler's party chairman. He now controlled the NSDAP and led it into violent conflicts against other German political parties.
  • The Hitler Youth and the Staff Guard

    In 1922 Hitler established three major organizations. the Jungsturm Adolf Hitler and the Jugendbund der NSDAP and and the Stabswache (The staff Guard).
  • Reichsparteitag and The Beer Hall Putsch

    Reichsparteitag and The Beer Hall Putsch
    The first Reichsparteitag took place in January 1923 in Munich. Later that year, Hitler attempted his own coup d'état in November 1923 during the Beer Hall Putsch, in which 2,000 Nazis marched on the city center.
  • 1924 Elections

    At his trial in 1924, Hitler was sent 5 years in prison. He wrote Mein Kampf (My Struggle) during his imprisonment, a manifesto to Nazi propaganda and anti-Semitism. Even though the Nazi Party was banned in Bavaria after the beer hall Putsch.

    Hitler was sent to prison in 1924 he was sent for 5 years but was realized 9 month after he was sent.
  • Legal Power

    The failure of the Beer Hall Putsch and influence of Mussolini prompted Hitler to move toward legal means of gaining power, rather than violence. Mein Kampf was published in July 1925, making Hitler famous in the European Fascist movement. Hitler formed the Schutzstaffel (SS) outside the control of the SA. He formally renounced his Austrian Citizenship in 1924 as well.

    Nazi Party

    Hitler and the Nazi Party were starting to gain some recognition outside Bavaria and throughout Germany. During the rest of the 1920s, the party used anti-Semitic propaganda and Hitler's popularity to move into legitimate politics. They gained voters and seats in every federal election
  • Federal Election

    The federal elections were more successful for the NSDAP than before, but still not strong: the Nazi Party won only 2.6% of the vote.
  • Presidential Election and Stock Market Crash

    The Stock Market crash of October 29th led to a major financial disruption all over the world. Massive numbers of German citizens were now unemployed and in financial distress.
  • Street Violence and Election Success

    In 1930 there was an escalation of street violence instigated by the Nazis and propaganda by Goebbels. In the September federal election, Nazis won over 18% of the vote and gained 107 government seats.
