    Hitler joins the Nazi Party
    After being created only earlier that year, Hitler joined the Nazi's due to his frustration caused by Germany's defeat in WW1. He needed a loyal group of supporters surrounding him to help with his campaign to gain power.

    The Beer Hall Putsch
    Also known as the Munich Putsch, this was Hitler's failed attempt at taking over the government in Bavaria. Bavaria was a state in the south of Germany. He, alongside his Nazi Party tried to forcefully gain power to make major changes in Germany but were unsuccessful and consequences followed for these actions.

    Hitler is convicted for treason
    Hitler was convicted for treason and sentenced to 5 years in Prison due to his attempt to overthrow the government. He only spent less than a year in prison and after his trial, his rising popularity had made him a national figure, this was due t his defence speeches being published in newspapers all over Germany.

    Germany joins the League of Nations
    Germany managed to persuade the world to allow them to join the League of Nations, an international organisation formed to settle disputes between nations. They were able to get their government back on track after WW1 due to Gustav Stresemann, who guided Germany back to having a stable law making system.

    Hitler is appointed Chancellor
    The president at the time, President Paul von Hindenburg appointed Hitler chancellor of Germany and also as the leader of the Nazi Party or National Socialist German Workers party. Hitler being appointed chancellor was described as being a 'shadowy backroom deal'.

    Germany invades Sudetenland

    Hitler demanded that this part of Czechoslovakia, Sudetenland, be given back to Germany. He used the fact that its population was about 3 million ethnic Germans to persuade the return of this place. Britain, France and Italy met with Germany to discuss these demands and agreed to them on the conditions that Hitler didn't make any more demands for territory, which Hitler agreed to.

    Germany invades Austria
    Hitler annexed/took control of Austria, and declared it a federal state of Germany. Britain and France both didn't react to this out of fear of starting another war.
  • Germany invades Czechoslovakia

    Germany invades Czechoslovakia
    Although Hitler agreed not to invade anymore European territory, he proceeded to invade the remaining parts of Czechoslovakia and take control of them.
  • Germany invades Poland

    Germany invades Poland
    Hitler demanded the return of Polish territory, even after already going against his word and invading Czechoslovakia. Britain allied with Poland to ensure this didn't occur but Germany still invaded Poland. Due to this, France and Britain abandoned the policy of appeasement and declared war on Germany.
