  • Crown Prince Franz Ferdinant and his wife were shot dead.

    Crown Prince Franz Ferdinant of Austria-Hungary was inspecting troops in the Bosnian capital Sarajevo. During a tour in his carriage later that day, he and his wife were shot dead by Gavrilo Princip, a Bosnian Serb.
