    Jacques Cartier

    In 1534 Jacques Cartier was sent by the king of New France on a voyage. He was sent for two main reason, one to find a shipping route to the Orient to allow French traders to import silk and other fine products to Europe. Two to find precious gems and metals such as gold to make France rich.

  • Samuel de Champlain

    In 1603 Samuel de Champlain was sent on a voyage just like Jacques Cartier. Samuel de Champlain crossed the Atlantic Ocean many times to find a route to Orient. But unfortunately Samuel de Champlain died in 1635, he was pretty skilled as a cartographer.
  • The Jesuit Priests

    1611 the first Jesuit arrived at New France. They have two main goals that must be complete as soon as possible. One of the main goals are to establish schools for boys. Two to spread the Roman Catholic religion to the First Nation peoples.
  • Smallpox

    Smallpox was the first recorded in New France in1616. It spread quickly among the First Nation peoples, causing many deaths of the First Nation people. 1630 the smallpox killed half of Huron.
  • The Bishop

    1659, Francois de Laval arrived in New France. He was given the job to organize the peoples work in the church in New France. Francois de Laval was appointed the first Bishop of Quebec in 1674.
  • The Great Peace of Montreal

    1701, 1300 representatives of more than 40 First Nations people met the leaders of New France in Montreal. Some of the representatives are the Iroquois Confederacy that are enemies of New France since 1630s. The First Nations people and New France people signed a treaty and agree to cooperate with each other in the future.

    In 1720, New France had population about 24,900 and New England had a population about 466,200. New England had about double the population of New France. New France had a population about 24,900 because New France has a harsher climate than New England.
  • The Caputure of Louisbourg

    June 1758 the British attacked Louisbourg. French got surprised when they saw 200 British ships in the harbour outside there fortification. The battle did not last long, it took the British 60 days to capture Louisbourg.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    1763, the war between the France and the Britain ended and signed a treaty of paris. The treaty terms are that the France surrender all the possession in New France and Acadia to Britain. But France still gets to keep two tiny islands off the coast of Newfoundland.
  • Canada Under British Rule

    With the end of the seven years of war and the signing of the Treaty Of Paris, British ruled over almost all the land of New France. The new Britsh ruler retained and protected most of there property.
