  • The Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana Purchase

    The French sold a territory of land to America. America gained the use of the Mississippi river and was able to expand westward.
  • The Treaty of Ghent

    The Treaty of Ghent

    The war of 1812 ended with the Treaty of Ghent. The treaty was between Britain and America and stated that both sides would abide by territories before the war started, there would be a boundary commission for any disputes for territory, and that their relationships with the native Indians would be peaceful.
  • The Monroe Doctrine

    The Monroe Doctrine

    The Monroe Doctrine was created to inform European Nations that America would no longer allow colonization of their land.
  • The Indian Removal Act

    The Indian Removal Act

    Congress passed the Indian Removal Act, which forced Native Americans to relocate from the Southeast to current day Oklahoma. This act caused what we know as The Trail of Tears.
  • The Texas Revolution

    The Texas Revolution

    The Texas Revolution was a conflict between the Mexican Government and Texan civilians. The result of the war was Texas gaining independence from Mexico.
  • The Mexican-American War

    The Mexican-American War

    The Mexican-American War was caused by the annexation of Texas by America, and Mexico refusing to believe Texas was independent. The end of the war yielded Texas, New Mexico, California, Utah, Colorado, and Nevada as American Territory in the Peace Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.
  • The California Gold Rush

    The California Gold Rush

    Emigrants moved towards the Sierra Nevada Range due to the discovery of gold. This finding caused a major migration of people westward.
  • The American Civil War

    The American Civil War

    The American Civil war was fought by the North Union and South Confederates. The Union was against slavery and the Confederates were for slavery, so both sides fought for the installment of their opinion. The aftermath of the war brought the abolishment of slavery in America.
  • The Outlaw of Slavery

    The Outlaw of Slavery

    In 1863 the Emancipation Proclamation was provided by President Lincoln as the first line of defense for freeing slaves. Then in December of 1865, the 13th amendment was added to the United States Constitution making slavery federally illegal.
  • The Wounded Knee Massacre

    The Wounded Knee Massacre

    Lakota people were fleeing to Pine Ridge Agency seeing protection. On the way, they were stopped near Wounded Knee Creek by the seventh cavalry. The seventh cavalry killed over two hundred women and children, and killed ninety Lakota men. The soldiers of the cavalry buried the bodies in mass graves.
