  • Wireless Telegragh

    Gugliemo Marconi invented what he called “the wireless telegraph” while experimenting in his parents' attic.
  • Amplifier

    Lee De Forest supposedley invented the first radio amplifier. It is believed that Forest did not actually invent the amplifier but, a Canadian man named Reginald Fessenden.
  • Titanic

    Without the use of radio, the imfamous Titanic would have been much more tragic, with no one to send an emergency transmission to rescue the boat, and everybody would have drowned.
  • Amplifier Modulation

    Amplitude modualation is changing the formation of the height of the radio waves which increases the area of reception so a wider audience could listen. It was soon replaced by popularity by FM.
  • KDKA

    The first radio station is still broadcasting today. Originated from Pittsburg, Pennslyvania.
  • Uncle Charlie

    Uncle Charlie was another name used for personal or independent radio stations. Anyone with the money and equipment for a radio station could create one. This had to be stopped at one point in time because of it's extreme popularity.
  • FRC

    This committee was created to control the amount of Uncle Charlies and allow broadcasters to broadcast commercials without being interfered with by Uncle Charlies to sell their products.
  • Call Letter

    Given to a radio station to identify it seeing as a radio station could have the same numbers across the counrty.
  • TV and Radio

    With the extremely popular televisions on the rise radio was losing the battle with talk shows. People said that radio would analogous to shifting from horses to cars. However, music became the savior of radio, because the only places to listen to music at the time, were not at home.
  • Frequency Modulation

    FM is the process of extending and collapsing the distance of the radiowaves. This frequency is used for music because of its sound clarity, which was a consideral step up from AM. Edwin Howard Armstong was the first to disturb the frequency of a wave.
