    Maria Montessori was born on August 31st, 1870 and passed on May 6th 1952. In 1909 Montessori published her first book, "The Montessori Method", which is used as the basis for many schools to this day.

    Jean Piaget was born on August 8th, 1896 and passed on September 16th, 1980. He was famous for his learning approach, Cognitive Theory. His theory can be summed up as "Learning through play."

  • First Montesorri School Opens

    On Januray 6th, 1907 the first Montesorri school opened its doors in Rome. The school was named, "Casa dei Bambini" which translates to Children's House.
  • First Montessori School Opens Stateside

    The first Montessori School opened stateside in Scarborough, New York. By 1916 over 100 Montessori schools were operating stateside. Yet the Montessori Schools did not last stateside and phased out.
  • Jean Piaget's First Publication

    In 1928, Jean Piaget published his first child related resceach publication, "Judgment and reasoning in the child". He authored more then twenty rescearch publications with regard to the topic of early childhood education
  • Whitby School Opens, First Montessori School to Return

    The Whitby school was founded on the Montessori Method. It started in 1958 with the first classes being taught in a barn, but it expanded further when it relocated to its current home in 1960.

    The American Montessori society was created to help create Montessori Schools and provide proper education to the teachers. The May 12th, 1961 issue of TIME magazie discusses the rebirth of The Montessori Methond statewide.
  • The First Goddard Early Learning Center Opens

    The Goddard School opened its first location in Malvern, Pennsylvania. In 1989, they begin to offer franchise opportunities. Today, The Goddard School uses a "F.L.E.X" program which incorporates Jean Piaget's theories.

    On April 18th, 2012 I started my first offical job in Early Childhood Education, I started initally as a resource teacher and when I left I was an assistant teacher for 16-22 month olds! I was helping with lesson plans, and cirriculum but my favorite part was certainly decorations!
