- He was heir to the Austria-Hungary throne. -Assasination was by the Slavs.

Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia
- It was a reaction to the assasination of their Archduke, Ferdinand an exact month after the incident.
- This was the first of the many wars to start in the great WW1.

Germany invades Belgium
- Belgium had decided to remain neutral during this war and requested that teh other countries respect that.
- Germany ignored their request and invaded because it was easier for them to attack France through Belgium rather than the heavily guarded border.

The Sinking of Lusitania
- German U-boats sink the ship.
- 128 Americans died which eventually led to America getting involved in WW1.

The First Battle of Somme Begins
-This battle left the British miliatry with the most casualties in history.

The Zimmerman Note is Discovered
- British agents intercepted a telegram of Germany's. It was to Mexico, asking for an alliance.
- The telegram stated that if Mexico was to go to war with the U.S., then Germany would support Mexico.
