Trying to protect a fellow slave from a white overseer, 12 yr old Tubman got hit in the head with a two pound weight. The injury afected her her entire life and she would sometimes have spells where she would fall into a deep sleep.

At 25, she married a free African American, John Tubman and took his surname

Leaving her husband, Harriet ran away using the North Star to guide her to Philadelphia and saved up money.

In this time, Tubman made 19 trips to slavelands to help other slaves escape, including one trip to rescue her 70 yr old parents.

Tubman became an official conductor of The Underground Rail Road

Harriet's railroad career ending. She had saved 300 people and made 19 trips. Her friends brought her to Canada so she could stay safe.

Tubman enlisted as a contraband nurse in Hilton Head hospital, helping to nurse the sick. Somehow, she never got the diseases of the people she treated.She was also a nurse and sometimes a spy.

She married Nelson Davis, and they stayed together for 19 yrs until he died.

She was buried in Fort Hill cemetry with military rites.
