    When the Nationalists defeat Puyi, many centuries of ongoing Chinese dynasties come to an end. Then, relatively soon after the Nationalists take power, the communists rise and defeat them in a civil war.

    World War I begins as Austria declares war of Serbia
    When Archduke Franz Ferdinand gets assassinated, the Austrians declare war on the Serbs. The original plan failed, but the taxi cab made a wrong turn and the Archduke was assassinated. After this, the Austrians declare war on the Serbs, but the Russians join in with the Serbs. France and Britian join because they have an alliance with Russia, known as the Tripile Entente. Germany and the Ottoman Empire also jump into the fray because they have an alliance with Austria, thus causing a world war

    U.S. Enters the war
    The US enters the war for three main reasons. First, the Germans sank the Luisitania, a cruise ship with American civilians on it, because they thought it was supplying the British with weapons. After that, we intercepted a telegram the Germans tried to send Mexico that said they would help the Mexicans claim back land from the U.S. if they helped the Germans. Lastly, the U.S. had given more money to Britian, so it was in their best interest that the British win.

    When the Allies finally defeated the Central Powers, the two groups signed an armistice, which is an agreement that says the two sides will not fire at each other. Then, after a year of meeting, they finally signed the Treaty of Versailles, officialy ending the war.

    Gandhi knew that the Indians could not win independece by fighting violently for it, so he said that they should protest non-violently. He would make his own clothes, so the British would not make money off of it, and he would march down to the ocean to get his own salt. By doing this he made the British look bad because they were killing innocent protesters which helped them win their independence.

    Mustafa Kemal transforms Turkey into Republic
    After WWI, the Ottoman Empire finally fell and three new countries emerged. The countries were Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. He seperated church and state in an effort to modernize. When he died, the Turks gave him the name Ataturk (father of the turks)

    Mao Zedong heads Long March
    After the Nationalists take power, the Chinese people become upset with the west because they did not get what the wanted out of the Treaty of Versailles. Because of this, they turn to communisum. This sparks a civil war between the Nationalists and the Communists. When it finally looks like the Nationalists have surrounded the Communists, the Communists make a 6,000 mile retreat, better known as the Long March. They gain new support in the country side during the Long March and eventually win.
