  • Ludendorff realises an Armistice must be signed

  • Prince Max Von Baden appointed chancellor

    A new German parliament was created:
    - Chancellor was answerable to the Reichstag
    - The army was put under control of the civil government

  • Max Von Baden writes to President wilson asking for an Armistice

  • Naval mutiny at Kiel Naval base

  • Revolt spreads to Berlin

    Workers' and Soliders' councils are set up (soviets)

  • Max Von Baden released a press statement saying the Kaiser had abdicated

    • Max Von Baden knew he needed the SPD to help sustain his government.
    • The Kaiser refused to abdicate, therefore Baden took it into his own hands by releasing this press statement.
    • The Kaiser was forced to abdicate from this and Max Von Baden also resigned from being chancellor

  • SPD called a general strike for workers in Berlin to force the Kaiser to abdicate

    SPD threatened to withdraw from Max Von Baden's government unless the Kaiser abdicated within 24 hours

  • Ebert-Groener pact is formed

    Groener, General of the German army promised to support Ebert when he needed the army, as long as Ebert would not change anything within the army.

  • Armistice signed

  • Assassination of Hugo Haase

  • Hitler investigates and becomes a member of the DAP

  • Spartacist uprising

    Radical communist left wing Spartacists attempted a revolution against the Weimar government led by Karl Leibknecht and Rosa Luxemburg

  • Peace conference began at Versailles

  • Elections for the Constituent Assembly

    The assembly would meet in Weimar to establish a new constitution and govern the country

  • Treaty of Versailles was signed by all powers

  • DAP change their name to the NSDAP and release a 25-point programme setting out their beliefs

  • Kapp Putsch

    General Luttwitz and Wolfgang Kapp led a Putsch in an attempt to overthrow the Weimar government.

  • Assassination of Matthias Erzberger

  • Hitler became leader of the NSDAP

  • Germany lacked in reparations payments

    Germany had asked 3 times to postpone its reparations payments while it takes care of its own financial difficulty
    Germany ahd fallen behind with tis payments of coal towards France

  • Assassination of Walther Rathenau

  • Ruhr Crisis

    France and Belgium invaded the Ruhr and took control of the coal areas, steel and manufactured goods and claimed them as reparation payments.
